Position Editorial Assistant – Publications

Purpose Support the Publications and Web Editor with the production of the
Academy’s publications; edit and produce the Academy’s quarterly
Fellows’ Newsletter.

Accountability Accountable overall to the Director of Policy and Public Affairs for the
performance of his/her duties, who is also his/her supervisor within its
meaning of the Health and Safety at Work Act. Line management
responsibility to Publications and Web Editor.

Specific
Responsibilities Provide editorial and administrative support to the Publications and Web
Editor on the Academy’s quarterly magazine Ingenia, and other
publications as required.

Write and collate small news features for Ingenia, plus titles and
crossheads.

Proofread Ingenia and liaise with designers on amendments. Advise on


the look of pages and oversee the general production of the magazine.

Liaise with Ingenia authors, sponsors and Editorial Board members to


ensure that copy is received and proofs delivered in a timely manner,
and that authors and sponsors receive all required documentation, such
as editorial guidelines and timelines.

Support the development of database information systems for


managing the production of Ingenia (such as mailing lists, author
databases and sponsor information).

Lay out, produce and edit the Academy’s quarterly Fellows’ Newsletter
in consultation with the Publications and Web Editor. Manage the
quarterly Newsletter Committee meetings that provide content. Approve
final layout with printers.

Carry out any other tasks reasonably requested by the Publications and
Web Editor.

Check publications produced by the Academy against visual identity


guidelines, and for editorial errors.

Experience/skills The post holder will be a good communicator with proven editorial skills,
excellent organisational abilities and meticulous attention to detail. We
are looking for someone with good all-round experience of publications
content and design. Experience with desktop publishing would prove an
advantage.
