Evolution defines the changes to a population over many generations.
Scientifically, it describes inherited traits of a population, but it can also be
used to explain the changes observed in the tools utilized by a population, such as technology. Technology has been integrated into society over the past few decades as a tool for communication and research, which has enhanced the education industry enormously. The current generation of students has grown up with the most cutting edge technology developments and as a result can be described as having a lifelong use of communication and media technology. Students of 2013 are fully integrated technological enthusiasts, so shouldnt their educators strive to keep up with their level of technology knowledge? I graduated from University of the Fraser Valley earning a Bachelor of Science degree in 2010 and graduated from University of British Columbia earning a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) in 2011. Presently I am a high school science teacher, and I endeavor to be able to bring my lessons to a level in which integrating different types of technology will allow students to absorb new types of information. I am extremely passionate about expanding and continuing my technology education, which is why the University of British Columbia Masters of Education Technology (MET) program is my first choice of graduate program. I look forward to expanding my professional knowledge base in technology not only to enhance my current practice, but also to precipitate my future leadership roles and responsibilities. My goal is to incorporate various learning technologies such as web-publication and social software tools into my professional career in order to maximize the learning potential of my students. I look forward to learning how different media can influence my lesson presentations and assessment techniques. I also aim to influence my professional learning community by leading coworkers to develop their own digital technology knowledge to enhance their own professional goals. Academically, I am looking forward to collaborating with local and global educators in the topic of technology education. As indicated on the MET website, I will be collaborating with fellow students that come from a variety of educational fields. I look forward to investigating how our diverse experiences can enhance our discussions of a common topic. I am especially excited to learn about the culturally influenced behavior of people and how their communication patterns influence the way they learn. It is this information that I would use to build meaningful lessons for culturally diverse classes.
I eagerly look forward to continuing my technology and professional growth
with UBCs Masters of Educational Technology program. Thank you in advance for your consideration of my application.
