Measurable Outcomes
At the conclusion of the 2-day training, participants will be able to:
Articulate their own personal brand, values, the why behind the things they do and their increased
emotional intelligence tied to their potential career paths.
Utilize a scientific and systematic approach to problem solving and critical thinking that they can apply to
preparing themselves for their professional careers.
Explain the various career paths within IT as well as how technology is embedded in nearly all 21st
Century careers (including how to communicate professionally, especially online).
Meet, learn about and interact with industry professionals to gain advice and insights.
Experience web design & coding by using Weebly, Wix, Square Space or Moonfruit and learn how to
basically code using CodeSchool & CodeAcademy.
Understand the realistic process & expectations of attaining a job within their chosen industries.
Create a website that details their professional paths, including what they need to learn technologically
in order to be successful in their career pursuits.

Participants will create their own slogans that capture their personal brands.

solved. Were going to push you to really THINK this week! Before doing so, youre going
to learn a method to help you solve problems both in your personal & professional lives.

The Big 5 and How to be a Professional

Prior to any business meeting, its important to do your research. Participants will prepare
by researching our guest Skype callers (all pro developers) and their companies to generate
some awesome questions to ask. Use the Company Research & Interview Prep guide.

Fixed vs. Growth Mindset

Many developers begin their careers by building their own websites. Thankfully there are
sites today that help beginners do just that! Well do a high-level overview
of this site and well go over what youll be creating and presenting on Day 3.

Career Exploration & Your Website Work Time

Knowing where youre going and how youre going to get there is hugely important.

Intro to Weebly & the Career Exploration Project

2:30 pm - 4:00 pm

We will explore various career paths in tech that include entrepreneurship, front-end
design/software development, back-end development, quality assurance, customer service
and sales as well as dive into how tech is embedded in 21st Century careers.

Humans are fluid. We constantly change, adapt and improve. We will use their first
experience with web design as a guide to talk about this incredibly important mindset.

Intelligence is often fixed, meaning one is likely as intelligent as theyre ever going to be to a
certain degree. Emotional intelligence on the other hand is entirely fluid and can be learned
(and improved) throughout your life. Its also one of the largest factors tied to career
success.

Whats it like to Code?

career path. While doing so, also manage your time to work on your website.

Introduction to Emotional Intelligence

We face problems in our lives every day. Sometimes we know exactly what to do, while
other times we think our worlds will end. Learning how to ask great questions and train our
brains to be sharper will help us to get past those problems we face.

Participants will try their hand at what its like to code using CodeSchool or Codecademy.

Meeting & Questions Preparation

Participants will prepare for another round of interview with our guest developers by using
the Company Research & Interview Prep guide.

Learning from Failure & Dealing with Stress

Finishing Touches on Your Website

To err is to be human. We all fail and those who succeed fail more often than others. But
the trick is to fall down, dust yourself off and get back up. We can learn a lot from where we
screwed up the most.

We will deeply explore why participants should explore careers in tech as well as how they
can attain their goals, including a step-by-step plan (complete with obstacles they might need
to overcome).

Presenting your Career Exploration Site

Participants will conclude the 2-day training by presenting their road maps and being
presented with a laptop upon completing the program. Each participant will have no more
than 10 minutes to present.

Whats Next?

Complete your Professional Development Plan to keep you motivated and rally people around you who can
help keep you accountable to your goals tied to your career (and what will allow you to succeed).
