YANGON INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

PROGRESS THROUGH EDUCATION

FULLY ACCREDITED BY WASC

November 7, 2014
To Whom It May Concern,
Mr. Horton is one of the most efficient, effective, and helpful teachers I have worked with in my
career as an administrator. He has a unique combination of intellect and people skills that
make him an excellent educator at the Yangon International School (YIS). As you can observe
from his resume, Mr. Horton has a vast array of educational experiences from around the globe.
At every educational venue Mr. Horton has been involved with he has made it a priority to
become actively involved in the school community and contribute positively to its success.
In the areas of consultation and collaboration, Mr. Horton excels. I have observed his skill in
working with students, parents, fellow teachers, and administrators. He has a knack for
presenting views so they are understandable to everyone concerned. He combines this with an
honest concern for people that lets him help others find a common ground even when they
disagree. His respectful attitude creates a desire to work together in the best interest of
everyone involved.
Mr. Horton maintains a high standard for both himself as an instructor and for his students.
Due to his enthusiasm for teaching and his ability to motivate his students, it is extremely rare
when a discipline problem occurs. He does an excellent job planning and delivering his
lessons. Mr. Horton provides numerous opportunities for his students to become actively
involved in the learning process during class instruction.
Mr. Horton is very active and conscientious in school wide activities as he is the secondary
representative of our very important Teacher Advisory Committee (TAC). As secondary TAC
representative, Mr. Horton conducts staff meetings where discussion centers on how school
improvement can occur as recommended by YIS instructors. Mr. Horton then meets with the
YIS Director and YIS Administration to discuss these topics and see if the proposed
recommendations can be implemented.
As the YIS Science Department Chair for the past four years, Mr. Horton has been responsible
for coordination science orders for the entire science department plus he designed and ordered
materials for our new science labs. He has developed and implemented our Biology and AP
Biology curricula and resources. Additionally, Mr. Horton has taught Science in Grades 7, 8, and
9; coached boys soccer; coached badminton; and is coordinator for our Grade 9 Week Without
Walls Program.
Mr. Horton is the consummate professional in every sense of the word. He is trustworthy and a
complete team player. In any assignment, Mr. Horton goes above and beyond in his efforts and
he is a well-respected member of the staff. YIS is truly fortunate to have Mr. Horton as a staff
member as he brings a multitude of expertise to our campus. Feel free to contact me via email
at rarguello@yismyanmar.com or at YIS 95-1-578171.
Sincerely,
Richard Arguello
