Numbers of Students: 4-8

What worked well in your original draft? Why?
In my lesson plan, five words were the classs content, which was an appropriate number of new
words for students to learn in fifty minutes that they wouldnt feel too stressed or bored. At the
first stage, I had students follow me not only with the pronunciation but also on the matching the
emotion faces so that students had a better understanding without many explanations from me,
and it saved me a lot of time. In addition, I made a clear chart for each word that contained a
picture, synonym, definition and parts of speech. This handout helped students to review new
words during the following activities and after-class. Moreover, students had an active
communicative practice in the production part since they were given clear directions that details
were required and the topics were easy to discuss.
What didnt work well? Why?
Time management was inpractical and ineffective. I took 35 minutes for the communicative
practice, which was too much time and students could not understand the meaning of the target
words before they started practicing because I did not give enough explanation and examples.
Thus, when students started practicing, some of them were not clear about the pronunciation and
usage of words.
What changes would you make if you were to teach the lesson in the future?
I think, in the future, I will add more example sentences to demonstrate the words for my
students and I will spend more time to let students to absorb the knowledge before they do
production. For instance, if my students are ESL adult learners in a vocabulary class, I will
design a handout that has at least three words-in-content sentences so students will be able to
guess the meaning before I start to explain, and I will give students a fill-in-blank exercise and let
students put new words in sentences so that students will be able to use them in a suitable content.
