Lesson Plan

Health
Unit: Fitness 3-5th grade
Day: 1 Candy Land
GLCE:
M.MC.04.11 demonstrate all relationship movement concepts with people (i.e., leading/following,
mirroring/matching, unison/contrast, solo, alone in mass, partners, groups, and between groups)
with mature form of selected fundamental motor skills in controlled settings.
K.PS.04.01 describe key behaviors which exemplify each of the personal/ social character traits
of responsibility, best effort, cooperation, and compassion in controlled settings.
Lesson Objectives:
1. Students will be able to perform various physical activities with their group (jump
roping, skipping, hoping, Frisbee toss, shooting a basket, throwing). (psychomotor
domain)
2. Students will be able work with partners in a gym setting. (affective domain)
Objectives for Differentiated Instruction
Lesson Assessments:
1. Students will be assessed on their performance of physical activities by group
observation.
2. Students will be assessed on working with partners by teacher observation.
Assessments for Differentiated Instruction
Equipment and Set-up for Lesson:25 students
Equipment: 6 orange cones, 4 bowling pins, 6 bean bags, 1 barrel (trash can if no barrel), 10
frisbees, 6 red rubber balls, 6 blue rubber balls, 10 jump ropes, 5 bridge jump ropes, 15 poly
spots, 20 hula hoops, 1 basketball hoop.

Set-up:

Risk Management Concerns:


1. Make sure that students are maintaining personal space inside the general space
2. Make sure that students are taking turns in the appropriate manor.
3. Make sure groups are aware that other groups are doing activities during their turns
and that they are aware of surroundings.
Lesson Preview:
1. Introduction (sequence)
Discuss if anyone has ever heard of the board game candy land

2. Review (objectives)

Students will be able to perform various physical activities with their group (jump

3. Assessment review

Students will be assessed on their performance of physical activities by group


observation.

4. Hook: Whos ready to play candy land?


Lesson Development:
*The students will (TSW) enter the gym and sit on their floor
Differentiated Instruction
spot
(1 min)
Transition: TIW greet the students and instruct them not to
touch anything and enter sitting on the black line and wait for
instructions.
TIW lead the following exercises: 10 reach up high and touch
toes 10 squats
Transition: the instructor will have everyone sit in the listening
position to be able to explain the instructions
(3 mins)
*TIW explain the first activity of the class: Candy Land
*TIW will tell the students that today we will be playing the
exciting game of candy land!
Students will follow the path to the end and must complete the
tasks on the spaces to be able to move on their next turn.
Examples of spaces are:

Hula hoop till next turn


Jump rope to next turn
Hop to next colored space
Take the rope back to a different space
Return to start
Shoot a basket
Make a Frisbee into the barrel
Knock down a pin with a bean bag
dribbling

*TIW inform the students of the assessments for class today


Students will be assessed on their performance of
physical activities by group observation.
Students will be assessed on working with partners by
teacher observation
*TIW discuss the safety issues for this game which are
staying alert and conscious of surroundings.
Cues:

(2 min)
*TIW assign groups by birthday months ( should be 6 groups
of 4)
*TIW give out character cards to each group
The character cards have a number on the back that
determines the order
TIW have students line up with their groups at the start line.
(1 min)
*TSW roll a die to see how many spaces to move
*TSW as a team perform the action on the space landed
(every student must participate)
If it is a challenge space the group must do the challenge the
entire time until their next turn.
Possible spaces
Hula hoop till next turn
Jump rope to next turn
Hop to next colored space
Take the rope back to a different space
Return to start
Shoot a basket
Make a Frisbee into the barrel
Knock down a pin with a bean bag

*TIW make sure students are staying on task and taking turns
in order

*TIW make sure performing the tasks of their space


*TSW continue on the path of the game until one group
makes in to the end and sinks the required number of baskets
(1/2 the number of their team)
** If the game ends before time runs out students will start
over
(20 min)

TIW yell FREEZE


TIW inform students that class time is over and they sit in one
line on the black exit line.
(1 min)

Lesson Review:
1. What were some of your favorite spaces?
2. What was your least favorite space?
3. Are there any spaces you would like to see added?
Teacher will line students up and wait for their homeroom teacher to pick them up.
