The description of (script for) the lesson, wherein you describe teacher
activities and student activities
Inform students that today is the first day of fire safety week. Explain that they are
all going to be apart of a special fire safety school.
The teacher hands out special fire safety stickers.
Explain to students that this sticker means that they are officially apart of this
special school. Tell them that it is their job to learn all about fire safety.
Ask students if they have any ideas why learning about fire safety is important.
Students respond with keeping safe.

Tell students that their fire lesson will start with a read aloud.
Teacher calls students to the back carpet area.
Teacher calls students attention waiting for 100%.
Introduce the book Fire Fire to the students. Tell students that their first job in this
fire safety school is to listen close to the read aloud and see if they can find anything
important about fire safety.
Teacher begins the read aloud. It is important to remember to gain all the students
attention before you begin. Tell students that they are expected to be quiet and
listen throughout the read aloud.
Stop after page 3 and ask students what has happened so far in the story.
Encourage them to use the pictures to help them. Stress the fact that the firefighters
are going to the address/location they are given by the dispatcher.

Finish the story and tell the students to turn to a neighbor to share one thing they
learned about fire safety from the story.
Instruct students to return to their desks.
