LESSONSUMMARY/OVERVIEW
Afterspendingtheweeklearningaboutrenewableenergysources,withanemphasisonsolarenergy,the
studentswillspendtimeconstructingapersuasivelettertothemayoroftheirtown.Intheletterstudentswill
persuadethemayortoinvestinsolarenergyforthetown.Theywillusetheinformationtheyhavelearned
duringtheweektowriteargumentsthatsupporttheirclaims,i.e.solarenergyismorebeneficialforthetown
thannonrenewableenergysources.Thistopicandlessonisrelevantforaunitofsustainabilitybecausenon
renewableenergysourceslikecoal,oil,andnaturalgasescanpolluteourairandproduceCO2,whichare
harmfultoourenvironmentandozone.Ifmoretownscouldmaketheswitchtorenewableenergysources
thentheamountofCO2andotherairpollutantsthatareinouratmospherewoulddecrease.

insolarenergyforthecity.Eachparagraphmusthave45sentencestogetfullcredit,andmusthaveatleast
3supportingevidencesand1counterexamplewithcontrastingevidence.

needtoknowthedifferencebetweenrenewableandnonrenewablesourcesandhaveagoodunderstandingof
