Lesson: Students are


beginning a chapter on
multiplication and division
strategies. Today we looked at
patterns in a multiplication
table. Students looked at
different factors in rows and
columns, and then determined
patterns. For example,
products with a factor of 2
increase by 2 each time.
Lesson: Today we looked at
multiplying numbers by 2. I
modeled how to make jumps
on a number line on the board
as well as do repeated
addition. Students practiced
using a number line on their
whiteboards. We did the
lesson whole class where they
followed along in their math
books. They continued using
the same strategies: arrays,
equal groups, and bar models.
The completed the
independent practice and we
reviewed the answers whole
class.

Lesson: Today we looked at


dividing numbers by 2. I
modeled how to make jumps
on a number line on the board
as well as do repeated
subtraction. Students practiced
solving dividing numbers by
two on their white board.
They had to either model,
draw an array, show jumps on
a number line, or do repeated
subtraction. We did the lesson
whole class where they
followed along in their math
books. They continued using
the same strategies of equal
groups and arrays. They had
to write related multiplication
facts to their division facts.
The completed the even
numbers on the independent
practice and the problem
solving page. We reviewed the
answers whole class.

reviewed the vocabulary for
multiplication with the
students. They then practiced
problems on their
whiteboards. They practiced
problems by modeling with
equal groups, an array,
repeated addition, a number
line, and skip counting.
Afterwards, we did the lesson
out of their math book whole
class. They practiced looked
at problems with multiplying

quotient. They then practiced
problems on their
whiteboards. They practiced
problems by modeling with

repeated subtraction, and a
number line. Afterwards,
students completed the
independent practice and
problem solving pages in their
math books.
