This study examined the relationship between anxiety disorders and quality of life in epileptic patients at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital in Surakarta, Indonesia. 37 epileptic patients were assessed using the Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale to measure anxiety levels, the Quality of Life in Epilepsy scale to assess quality of life, and the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory Lie scale. The results found that 51.35% of patients had anxiety disorders while 48.65% did not, and that there was a significant association between anxiety disorders and poorer quality of life among epileptic patients. The study concluded that anxiety disorders have a detrimental effect on quality of life in epileptic patients and should be properly treated by clinicians.

Background: Anxiety disorders are the second most common comorbid of
psychiatric disorders in patients with epilepsy. Anxiety disorders in epileptic patients are remain got inadequate treatment and therapy. Anxiety disorders affect the quality of life of patients significantly because of having persistent fear for the occurrence of seizures, this will also negatively affect patient care of epileptic patient. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between anxiety disorders and quality of life in epileptic patients in Dr. Moewardi General Hospital Surakarta Methods: This is an analytical descriptive studi. Sample were taken using Purposive sampling on epileptic patients in the clinic of Neurology Dr. Moewardi General hospital Surakarta who met the inclusion criteria between June 1, 2015 up to July 1 2015. Informed consent were obtain from all subjects, Taylor Manifest Scale (TMAS) were used to measure an individual's level of anxiety, the scale of Quality of Life in Epilepsy (QOLIE-31) were used to measure the quality of life of epileptic patients, Lie Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI-L) test were also previously conducted.
Results: Of the 37 sample we obtained the rate of anxiety disorders in epileptic
patients in policlinic of Neurology Dr. Moewardi general hospital compared to those who doesnt were 51.35% and 48.65%, respectively. From statistical analysis resultss, there is a significant association between anxiety disorders and quality of life of epileptic patients (p <0.05) Conclusion: Anxiety disorders should be an accountable matter to understand by the clinicians to treat epileptic patients, due to deleterious effect of anxiety disorder towards the quality of life of epileptic patients.
