Beach Day by Mercer Mayer
Modeled Reading: During circle time, the students
will be engaging by thinking aloud and predicting
what is going to happen next in the book.
Learn about rhymes in book
Discuss the characters, plot, setting, etc.
Standard
1.3.K.C. Identify literacy elements (characters,
setting, problems) in stories.
1.3.K.D. Recognize literacy devices (e.g. rhyming,
alliteration).
Picture/Word Association
Beach themed pictures will be provided with descriptive
word
The students must look at the picture and find that object
wherever it is located in the classroom

Large group activity
In this activity students will roll or toss the beach
ball and the student who catches it will pick one
sight word to read. If they can not the teacher will
direct the student on how to sound out and they
will toss to the next person.
