Industrial Pharmacy is an academic unit with an
unwavering commitment to excellence in research,
education and service. The department is a part of the
Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences with 18 faculty
members who have advanced knowledge and expertise
in the fields of pharmaceutical technology and
pharmaceutics.
The departments areas of specialization reflect a
m u l t i d i s c i p l i n a r y s c i e n ce t h a t co n ce r n s t h e
development, production and characterization of
dosage form as well as the action and disposition of
drug in the body. Briefly, it is the study of the
relationships between drug formulation, delivery,
disposition and therapeutic response. Another aspect
of specialization deals with various pharmaceutical

The faculty members of the department focus
on the development of novel delivery systems to
optimize drug absorption or site-specific delivery of
bioactive compounds which are unable to be
eectively delivered by conventional dosage forms.
Such novel systems include micro-/nano-particulate
carriers, liposomes, dr ug -polymer conjugates,
functionalized membranes and films as well as various
viral and non-viral vectors. These systems are utilized
t o f a c i l i t a t e m e m b r a n e u p t a ke o f d r u g s ,
m a c r o m o l e c u l e s , a n d g e n e t i c m a te r i a l s . T h e
development of advanced vaccine deliver y and
adjuvants are also emphasized.
Apart from the research in drug deliver y
systems, increasing interest has been placed on the
utilization of natural resources in Thailand for
pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and cosmeceutical
b e n e f i t s . Ma n y n a t u r a l s u b s t a n ce s i n c l u d i n g
biopolymers form plant and animal resources have a
great potential for development into safe, eective,
and commercially viable products for local and
international markets. Research in this area is
expected to add the value to the countrys rich natural
resources and help to reduce the import of raw
materials, resulting in the stimulation of local
e co n o m y. T h e a r e a s o f s p e c i a l i z a t i o n i n t h e
department may be integrated with industrial
expertise through research collaboration with the Thai
pharmaceutical/natraceutical and cosmeceutical
manufacturers resulting in projects with high
industrial potential or technologies that can solve
industry-based limitations. Through close aliation
with Chulalongkorn University Drug and Health
Products Innovation Promotion Center (CU.D.HIP),
an up-to-date technologies and knowledge will be
eectively transferred to the Thai industry for self
reliance and the sustainable growth of Thailands own
economy.
