Chapter 19
Char: Lou, No
Setting: Outside of school (evening)/1, Bar Botte/2345
Plot: 1. Lou just finished the classes and saw No outside of the school across the street. They went to
the Bar Botte. People are looking at them.
2. No has been living in Val- de- Marne shelters for 2 weeks now. Her life: morning walking to kill
time and keep warm, cross Paris for hot meal, take ticket, wait, go off, ask for money. No wanted to be a
hairdresser when she was young,
3. Lou wants No to have a place, thinking about equality. In real life we cannot calculate or guess
the unknowns, it is what it is. Sorrow is sorrow.
4. No asks about Lous presentation. Lou tells that she was afraid at first and then not. Likewise
Lou tells that Lucas had asked her to go to his place but she refused. Lou talks about Lucas.
5. No talks about her love when she was in Frenouville. She and Laurent met in the evenings.

Chapter 20

Setting: Lous apartment (5th floor)/2
Plot: 1. Lou are thinking about taking No to stay in the house using the office (Chloes bedroom). She
is thinking about the ways she will mention it to her parents.
2. One evening Lou decides to tell her parents using an argument the way Mrs Rivery taught but
she forgets it when shes talking. Her parents agree to meet No.
Chapter 21
Char: Lou, No
Setting: pavement outside of the school (evening)/1, Lucass apartment (5 room)/2
Plot: 1. Lou sees No again. No left the hostel and just went back from friend in rue de Charenton.
Lous going to take her home, so she thinks that No needs a bath to be presentable. She goes to Lucas,
who once told he more or less lived alone (Dad in Brazil, mom rarely there), and talks about the situation.
2. No has a bath at Lucas. Lou calls mom about going there. Lou helps No to have a bath and
then they go to Lous apartment.
Chapter 22
Char: Lou, No, Lous parents
Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. No meets with Lous parents. They have dinner together. Her mother changes and Lou feels it.
They talk naturally. Conversation keeps going ceaselessly. After dinner, Lous father makes a bed for No
in the office. Nos in bed and sleeps. The very small can become large.

Chapter 23
Char: Lou, No, Lous parents, Lucas
Setting: Lous apartment/1, school gate& math class/2
Plot: 1. No always sleeps in the bedroom and Lou will go in and talk about school, also fetching her
for dinner. No helps clear up. No is recuperating. No tries to take up little space and be really considerate.
2. Lucas asks about No and what her parents think. They go into the math class. Axelle and Lea
look at them. Lucas has been sitting near Lou since Christmas and many people really amaze. Lucas and
Lou are called opposite. They take the metro together in the evening
Chapter 24
Char: Lou, No
Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. No starts to come out more and help with housework. Lou tells No about how noble and
civilized her great- aunt Yvonne is and how her last summer was. Now winter arrives, No looks in the
darkness through the windows, supposedly thinking about the old world.
Chapter 25
Char: Mr. Marin, Axelle, Lou, Lucas, No
Setting: Classroom/1, School gate/2 , Lucas apartment/3
Plot: 1. Axelle just has a new haircut. In the class Mr. Marrin marks her absent because of the new
haircut and asks what happened to her. Axelle feels humiliated. Mr. Marin asks Lou to have a comment
shared with others. Lou says that is disgusting to do so and this results her to go in study hall. Axelle
thanks her afterwards.
2. Lou meets No at school gate. Lucas kisses No (friend) and Lou feels a little sharp in the heart.
3. Past (Last year Lucasdad left him to Brazil and one month later his mom met new man.
Lucas didnt like him so her mom moved to live in Neuilly ) Lucas give No and Lou the tour around the
apartment. No plays with the blade, dancing. Then, they have tea in the kitchen and listen to music,
slumping on the sofa.
Chapter 26
Char: No, Lous dad, Lous mom, Lou, Suzanne
Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. Lous dad suggests No to go back to see her social worker. No starts looking for a job and tells
how she does on searching to Lous mom.
2. In the evening No starts to tell about her life to Lou and Lous mom:
Suzzanne has No when she was 15 because of being raped by four men. Normandy, England.
After birth, Suzanne worked as cleaner in supermarket.
No was 7 when raised by grandparents.
Age 18, Suzanne met an older man in a nightclub who works in Choisy-le-Roi. Next summer

3. Few weeks later, No found her place in the family. They spend time together. No asks again

4. Lous mom is getting better. She goes out, buys new clothes, meet with old colleagues.
Chapter 27

Setting: Lous apartment/12, Lucas apartment/3
Plot: 1. No asks if Lou ever stops thinking. Lou and No spend a lot of time together, especially No who
always helps and supports Lou with everything.
2. Nos smoking in the balcony and Lou go to find out more about Laurent who live in Ireland
now. She is going to see him.
3. Lou takes the bus with Lucas and meets with No at the Metro. (Age 14 Left school) Three of
them spend time together doing many things such as eating, hanging out mostly, listening to music, etc.
Lou and No go back house. Lou has a good memory about No.
Chapter 28
Char: Lou, No, Lucas
Setting: Lous apartment/1, Lucass apartment/23
Plot: 1. No has found a job and everyone celebrates for her. They all are really happy for her.
Nos alarm goes off at 6. Make coffee and bread for breakfast. Sandwich for lunch. She works at 7 in a
hotel near Bastille. She finishes at 4. She comes back knackered. No has backache and is taking medicine.
2. Tuesday the three meet at Lucas s. No talks about her work, boss, and some anecdotes.
Lucas talks about class and describe people.
3. Lou goes herself to Lucass. She really likes Lucas now. (She always looks at him and he
knows, giving a sweet smile back)
Chapter 29
Char: No, Lou, Suzanne, Laurent, Genevieve
Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. No lived with mom and the security man. He is good to her, but her moms not. Often No
would stay in her room in silence. Suzanne and the man argued a lot of things including No. No always
heard it. Once No got pushed by her mom and finally got a scar on her eyebrow.
Next year, the man left one night. After that Suzanne started drinking more.
Later they moved to the council house in Ivory. Suzanne lost her job. No didnt do well at

school.
Age 12, put in foster family ( Mr & Mrs Langlois run a petrol station in Normandy)
Secondary school, started smoking, running away several time, and being sent to reform school.
Met Laurent and sneaked out at night to see stars. They met Genevieve.--> (Genevieve works at
the superstore. Her grans live near Saint-Pierre-sur-Dives. Genevieve pass exam and goes to live in Paris.)

Chapter 30

Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. Lou and No exchange stories and No seems to miss school stuff. They both go out and play
like a child. They went to Monsieur Bricolage to buy washing lines. No supports Lou with whatever she is
doing.
2. No went to her social, but there is nothing much.
Chapter 31
Char: Lucas, Lou
Setting: French Classroom/1, Lous apartment/2, school/3
Plot: 1. Lucas sends many little notes to Lou and Lou feels quite disturbed because she likes this
class.
2.Lous dad is going for business. The three eats whatever in the house. Lous mom tells no
about her childhood, how curious and intelligent she is. Lous mom and No have a drink and No asks
question about her life including Chloe. They go to bed and No goes to work in the morning. Lou
somehow didnt get up to see her as usual.
3. Lou met Lucas. As shes waiting in the queue, she thinks about her mom recovery. After
school Lucas told her the school gossip. Lucas told Lou secret that when she grows up, hell take her to
the place where music is beautiful. Lou then asked about parents dont love their children.
Chapter 32
Char: Lou, No, Lucas
Setting: Outside/1, Lous apartment/2, Hotel/3 Lucas Apartment/4 School/5
Plot: 1. Lucas has guitar lesson so No and Lou take the camera out and take photos of them.
Afterwards they get the pictures, but No thinks that those are not beautiful. She shows her only picture
which seems painful because there is only her in there.
2. No is in bad mood for days. She steals medicine from Lous mom such as tranquillizers. She is
having a hard time at work. She is sick.
3. No found that her boss is a bad person. She revenge on him by spilling saliva into his coffee.
4. Lucas gives Lou things and tells her that he wants her to see his mom. They both think about
reprisals for Nos boss. Lucas makes up the future about No: become owner, repainted the walls, attract

Chapter 33
Char: Lou, No, Suzanne Pivet
Setting: Lous apartment/1, Suzannes building/3
Plot: 1. No wants to see her mom, so Lou lie to her dad that they will go to flea market at Montreuil.
2. They take the metro to Austerlitz Rer train Ivory Lou keeps asking if she wants to do
this, No says yes because she has called.
3. No gets angry, slamming the door because there is no one opens the door for her. Lou calms
her down, but she slumps and bleeds. Then they leave.
Chapter 34
Char: Lou, No, Lous parents, Aunt Sylvie
Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. Lou and her parents need to go Dordogne for a few days to support Aunt Sylvie who has just
been dumped by her husband, so they are going to leave her here alone. Lou likewise abandons her.
Chapter 35
Char: Lou, No, Lous dad, Lucas
Setting: Lous apartment/1, Lucass apartment/2
Plot: 1. Lous dad lectures No about the rules and what she is supposed to do when they are gone.
No looks concerned and serious.
2. Lucas and Lou is having a party. No comes later, dressing unusually. She puts on make-up.
They watch the movie of the deaf girl who loves a man who will abandon her at last, but finally she
helps him even though she knows it, so he understand her strength and reliability. No and Lou go home,
but No seems to have something. She says that Lou has helped her and Lou has got family, school, and
her life. No cries.
Chapter 36
Char: Lou, Aunt Slyvie, Lous parents
Setting: Lous apartment
Plot: 1. Aunt Slyvie is in mess. She is in severe condition after being dumped. Lous dad tries to call
No, but there is no answer as promised, even the neighbors still dont know. They go back on Thursday.
Lou has a premonition. She is afraid No would be gone. Along the way, she sees the new homeless site.
They arrive, get into the house, and see Nos room full of empty bottles and pills.
