9926 BBU single technology (d2uv3) - WCDMA

FEATURE DESCRIPTION

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Weight < 26lb (12kg)
Dimension 2U x 300mm
Up to 3 modem cards
1 controller card

The 9926 BBU consists of four types of hardware elements:

CCM which controls OAM management, part of call processing
and internal/external data flow switching/combining, supporting
external/internal alarm connectivity and external synchronisation
reference interface.
CEM, controls part of call processing and base band
transmit/receive digital signal processing.
RBP (user Rack Back Plane), supports all internal links between
CCM-U and CEM-U modules.
Fan rack / RUC (Rack User Commissioning), which supports all
commissioning of non-volatile memories, and fan alarms. It is
designed for -48V DC power supply.

FUNCTIONS

Hosting of digital part of NodeB :

 For distributed solutions with RRH
 For Macro solutions using TRDU

KEY BENEFITS (compared to 9326 BBU)

DEPENDENCIES

No support of LR modules (SD_CxM)

The 9926 BBU is equipped with latest generation of digital

modules (eCCM-u and eCEM-u)
Unrestricted support of eCEM-u due to stronger fans

eCEM-u (WCDMA)
FEATURE DESCRIPTION

The eCEM-u is a new version of the Channel element module. It

is an evolution of the xCEM-u.
eCEM-u (Channel Element Module): The eCEM-u provides the 3G
signal processing within the NodeB for voice and high-speed data
calls and supports multiple sectors.
It is designed to provide increased performance and capacity
compared to xCCM-u and future proofs for 3GPP standards
evolution.

Functions

Performs the base-band signal processing for all

supported WCDMA channels
ICU (Interface and control unit):
control and timing interfaces to the base station
 control and management functions

DEPENDENCIES

In case of extension in d2uv2 horizontally mounted in

MBI, a fan upgrade is necessary
Mixity with iCEM-u descoped due to low network
penetration of this module in d2uv2
The eCEM-u is compatible with xCEM-u
The eCEM-u is compatible with iCCM-u, xCCM-u and
eCCM-u.

KEY BENEFITS

128 users HSUPA 2ms TTI

90 OVSF codes available for up to 6 cells
Support of up to 6 Cells, 2 carriers
Aggregated DL throughput 60Mbps
Aggregated UL throughput 33 Mbps
Full support of enhanced cell FACH UL and DL
Support of CPC 2ms
Support of Mimo
Support of DC + Mimo up to 84 Mbps

13
~25% additional CPU processing
capacity in
highly loaded situations (versus xCEM-u).

Gigabit Ethernet (GE) MDA

2 SFP cages for optical GE
1 RJ45 for electrical GE

(1) For W-CDMA backhaul

Functions
-

The eCCM-U is the next version of Core Controller Module (CCM) for the
9926 BBU (will fit in the current 9326 d2U v2 rack w/o impacts)

CPU power to manage the NodeB/eNodeB terminated flows

NodeB/eNode B synchronization
O&M functions
Base Station Hubbing (UA9.0 POI)

Increase Processing Power in order to support either 3G or LTE with the

same platform
Improvements when comparing to the xCCM-U:
Brings more updated and powerful HW components
2 variant of MDA types: 4E1/T1 MDA (3G) and GigE MDA (3G & LTE)
Additional 10MHz input and 10 or 15 MHz output port (depending on HW
versions) (dual SMB) to be used for inter-BBU synchronization (SW
support in UA9/LA5.0)
Improved Oscillator Stability in Holdover Mode (1 month frequency
synchronization within the Node-B temperature operational rage)
Support CPRI Rate 2 &3
Capable of supporting additional security:
The connection between the LMT & eCCM-U can be secured
Un-ciphered data inside the eCCM-U will not be accessible
The keys used for ciphering cannot be intercepted inside the eCCMU (in case of tampering with HW).

DEPENDENCIES

Two variants for deployment for 3G and LTE

3G: 3JR20073BB (factory load allows later remote SW upgrade to LTE)
LTE: 3JR20073CB (GPS and eOCXO)

3G variant will be supported by LTE later: not in LA4 and not LA5 POR today

Interfaces
Connection to Radio through 6 CPRI ports (optical or electrical
SFP)
One GPS synchronization port (PPS)
One site lan or debug port
Gigabit Ethernet for backhaul
Input/output for synchronisation

60% capacity increase for Control Plane traffic (versus xCCM-u).

This CPRI transport configuration is already supported

but

This configuration is defined in CPRI standard and

reduces the number of fibers used but

Passive solution with reduced number of fibers

used, but

fiber is not widely available on cell sites

it would introduces a single point of failure on

the cell site and wireless equipment have a lower
reliability than transport equipment

requires many expensive long-haul colored

interfaces (SFPsI in BBU and RRH making it an
expensive solution for sites with many CPRI
interfaces

even when available, fiber is usually a scarce and

costly resource and this usage is not efficient
in an ideal scenario, a cell site should not use
more than 1 optical fiber (2 for resiliency)
it does not scale up easily when the site
configuration must be increased
fibers must be added when new RRH are added
high number of Long reach SFP heads increase the
CAPEX

it would not be adapted to large site

configurations
the highest CPRI rate currently defined in the
standard is 9 830 Mbps, and the bandwidth
required for large site configurations exceeds this
value (e.g, 3 sectors LTE 20 MHz MIMO 4x4 would
require 2 CPRI Rate 7)

it is difficult to manage operationally as

each RRH must use the correct colored
transceiver with a matching colored interface at
the BBU Pool end
it is also not a carrier grade solution

this is not a carrier-grade solution either

this is not a carrier-grade solution

no management of the optical NW: optical NW
failures hard to detect, troubleshoot and fix

BBU Centralization requires a solution making a more cost-efficient usage of fiber, long reach optical heads and
providing OAM mechanisms capable to detect and38automatically recover from transmission failures

How ?

1)

1)
2)

2)
3)

Enable BBU Centralization in every possible

fiber circumstance
In a cost effective way to optimize TCO gains
Introducing Manageability of the Optical Network

3)

By the ability to connect any Optical access Network

By compressing and multiplexing electrically CPRIs to
save optical NW cost
Using ITU-T G.709 standard in the optical network

What is LFO ?

1)

LFO is an ALU Wireless-aware Transmission-access module

ALU Wireless-aware allows optimization of the CPRI links, Transmission-access allows to optimize the way we access

ENHANCED DUAL CORE PACKET SERVER (EDCPS)

FEATURE DESCRIPTION
9370 RNC capacity growth with DCPS has reached its limit. 3G
data traffic continues to grow exponentially year over year.
Enhanced Dual Core Packet Server (eDCPS) is introduced as an
alternative to the existing DCPS to enable future capacity growth of
the RNC compared to the 9370 with DCPS.
By default, the eDCPS will provide the same capacity as DCPS.
The capacity increase will be available through software upgrade
DCPS and eDCPS simultaneous support in the same RNC at isocapacity.

FEATURE VALUE
RNC increase capacity through software without additional HW need
CAPEX saving: Immediate investments in eDCPS at iso- capacity is
less costly compared to adding DCPS and then replacing them with
eDCPS when additional capacity is needed.

Future proof 9370 capacity

growth solution while
protecting hardware
investment

Reduced footprint thanks to reduced nb of RNCs vs the RNC with

DCPS.
eDCPS allows for continuing capacity evolution in future software
releases
