TEACHER INSTRUCTION AND LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
Day 1:
- Remind students of what plants and animals need to survive. Prompt students
about where animals and plants live do they all live in the same place no .
Can you think of some different places where animals live? Elicit form
students what this means about the type of foods etc that they eat. Remind
students about where plants get their food from .

Teacher puts some pictures up on the ppt and gets students to talk about
them . Elicits from the children what happens when the animals in the picture
gets hungry what do they eat. Work through it until left with the plant can
the plant eat an animal? no where does the plant get its food from.
Teacher explains what a food chain is and how it will always begin with the
Sun.
Students complete activity putting together a food chain and answering a
cloze exercise.

To end lesson, teacher puts up some correct food chains on the board and
some wrong ones students use yes/ no cards and explain answers.
Day 2:
- Remind students what they carried out in the previous lesson.
- Teacher puts up a food chain and students put it in the correct order.
- Teacher now pays attention to the animals in the food chain and
introduces the terms predator and prey.
- Students look at other chains and work out who is the predator and who
is the prey and their place in the food chain.
- As a plenary students speak about out one thing they learnt about food
chains and predators and prey.

Enrichment
-

Day 3: - Students talk about some of the things they learn t in the previous
lesson. Teacher plays a short yes and no game to ensure that the main points
have been understood by all.
- Students are put into learning stations where they carry out various tasks
associated with food chains and prey and predator. Includes making food
chains,, carrying out research on the computer and a treasure hunt.
- At the end of the lesson students report back on what they did and learnt.

This will be a short week of learning as no school on Sunday, Parents Meeting on Wednesday and Fun Day on
Thursday.
The student will take one or two lessons. If so ICT lesson will be used as an extra Science lesson if available.
