successfully to You Do You Apparels target public. The third section of the plan includes
several communication tactics which include a press release and a pitch letter also.
Additionally, it includes a planned event with an event timeline and media contacts
including plans for publicity.
Overall, this plan will serve as a tool for You Do You Apparel so that they can use it to

whole and contribute to their success in the future. Again, I thank you for taking the time
to review this plan and I look forward to working with you soon.

Short Term Goals:
To sell at least $10,000 worth of apparel by the end of 2015
To have the apparel reach three new stores in three new cities
To expand beyond just apparel and bring in products in the 3 to 6 months
To have administrative staff meetings to better define the true roles of the 5 staff
members
Long Term Goals:

To open a office headquarters store in Nashville, TN

To host a music/arts festival
To have 10 employees in 5 years or more
To increase marketing beyond social media

Katherine Rodriguez
Strengths of Organization:
You Do You Apparel strives to create clothing and eventually products that display
creativity and originality of the consumer. You Do You Apparel was founded on the
premise of self-expression so they want the products to reflect the interests of the
consumer as well. They have only just begun but are beginning to put their foot in the
door with retail stores around the Nashville area.
You Do You Apparels 5 administrative members have the passion and the drive to
succeed in their clothing line and are willing to try new things and ideas to get their
name out there to more customers. They believe in learning from one another and
helping each other succeed in not just You Do You, but in their normal lives as well.
The 5 administrative members are determined even while focusing on their every day
lives, so they feel that there is not a need for concentration on their dedication or drive
to help this company blossom.
Challenges of Organization:
You Do You Apparel is a small business that is just getting started in the world of
entrepreneurship. Because of that, they struggle to find ways of getting their apparel out
into the world without using social media. Therefore, money is tight and every order truly
counts at this time to keep them going.
The company website and the face-to-face selling aspect make it hard to keep inventory
of the apparel. This leads to confusion within the 5 administrative members and leads to
mistakes about the number of items sold. Therefore, it causes miscommunication
between them altogether.
Since the 5 administrative members are all in college right now, they are not able to
actually meet face-to-face with one another. They struggle with leadership roles since
each of them try and work on each aspect of running a company. The
miscommunication often leads to errors that could hinder the further progress of the
company.

Opportunity Client Statement:

Because You Do You Apparel just started, they havent really been able to establish
their grounds across the nation yet and are mainly focusing on the southeast right now.
One thing that You Do You puts all their effort into is their mission statement and making
sure that the customers know that You Do You is all about showcasing what the
customer loves by creating the apparel that they do so that the consumer can do just
that.
The 5 administrative staff members are the core of the companys success. However,
since the 5 staff members are in college and are unable to have meetings during the
school year, their communication with each other lacks and it hinders the possibility for
new ideas and designs. With their new fall collection now out, they are not able to keep
up with the demand of inventory at times which goes back to the fact that the leadership
and communication is impeded.
An opportunity exists to improve the administrative staffs professional and personal
development over the next year as well as finding ways to strengthen their
communication and leadership between all 5 of them. Since You Do You Apparel
strongly believes in expressing individuality and empowerment, it is imperative to better
their communication skills between the staff and be more decisive with leadership so
the company can strive. With this plan, once it has gone through, will improve the staff
communication, leadership, governance, and direction of the company.

13

Katherine Rodriguez

Target Public Description and Defense:

You Do You Apparels target public will be the 5 administrative staff members of the
company. The 5 staff members are all male and attend different universities; some
attend the same university. These staff members know how to manage school and the
company at the same time and are determined to see it succeed.
Target Public Demographics:
The target public demographics chosen for this plan is the 5 administrative staff
members that are essential to the company. They are the primary public and directly
affect the success of the company. The 5 members are male and are going through
different educational majors. However, each of the 5 members are all studying in majors
that directly correlate to entrepreneurship and the business itself.

14

Katherine Rodriguez

Target Public Psychographics:

Makers

Have a strong interest in all things automotive
Have strong outdoor interests (hunting and fishing)
Believe in sharp gender roles
Want to protect what they perceive to be theirs
See themselves as straightforward; appear to others as anti-intellectual
Want to own land.

http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/ustypes/makers.shtml
Achievers

Have a "me first, my family first" attitude

Believe money is the source of authority
Are committed to family and job
Are fully scheduled
Are goal oriented
Are hardworking
Are moderate
Act as anchors of the status quo
Are peer conscious
Are private
Are professional
Value technology that provides a productivity boost.

http://www.strategicbusinessinsights.com/vals/ustypes/achievers.shtml
Defense of Psychographics:
The Makers label is fitting for this psychographic because the staff members firmly
believe in the outdoors and it is their prime means of creativity and where their ideas
derive from. They express themselves and their love for the outdoors through their
designs and hope the consumers can express themselves with their apparel.
The Achievers label is also fitting for this psychographic. You Do You Apparels staff
members also firmly believe in achieving excellence and success in all that they do.
They work towards a common goal and are committed to the company. Their
15

Katherine Rodriguez
professionalism is understood and they are able to achieve distinction amongst other
competitors.
Strategic Research Design:
Research will be gathered in order to collect the necessary data from the target public of
You Do You Apparel. The 5 staff members will be asked to complete leadership role
tests and surveys about communication. With this being done, each of the members will
be represented in this research which will eventually help the staff members thrive.
There will also be qualitative and quantitative research questions.
Some of the sample qualitative questions will be, how did you start working for You Do
You Apparel? What do you enjoy the most about working for You Do You? What is your
biggest motivation and how does it help you succeed? How does it keep you going? Do
you feel the each of the members are close knit and all agree on a common goal? How
could the 5 of you benefit from leadership tests to better determine the roles of each
one of you? Is there one goal that you want the 5 of you to accomplish in a certain
amount of time?
Quantitative research questions will include questions like how long have you been
apart of You Do You Apparel? In a given week, how many hours to you spend your time
on working on You Do You Apparels new ideas and designs?
Once the answers are collected, the data will be looked at and reviewed so that a better
understanding of what You Do You Apparel really needs in regards to developmental
goals and any worries they may have.

Budget Information:
The budget for this plan is $1,000.

Section Two:
Strategic Planning Detail

17

Katherine Rodriguez

Communication Objective:
To create and inspire staff cohesion and togetherness by 25% of each member of the
five administrative staff members at You Do You Apparel. For this, the primary goal is
altitudinal because this plan is to help change the attitudes of the five administrative
staff members and to decide the leadership roles of each member. It also seeks to aid in
the development of the five members at You Do You Apparel so that they can grow
individually and in the company. The secondary goal is informational. This will help the
company and with the attitudinal changes as well, it will be pieced together to form a
more cohesive staff. This will take place from January 1st, 2016 to January 1st, 2017.
Because of the attitudinal changes and also with the informational goals, You Do You
Apparel will be able to meet their short-term goals of filling leadership roles and as well
as expanding their company. After they are able to meet their short-term goals, they will
then be able to focus on their long-term goals of having an office headquarters and
being able to hire 10 employees in five years. Since You Do You Apparels mission
statement also states that they believe in expressing his or her interests, it connects
with the attitudinal.
To achieve these goals, the five administrative staff members will be asked to take a
leadership style assessment test to determine where each of them belongs and to
better determine their roles in the company. They will also take an attitudinal test to see
where they are with the company and how they feel about one another. At the end of the
planned year, the five members will take each test again to see where they stand at that
point and this will determine the amount of change. The goal is to get at least 25% of
each member changed attitudinally.

Katherine Rodriguez

Message:
Building a company takes courage.
Achieving success takes dedication.
Collaboration creates victory.
This message appeals to You Do You Apparels public, the five administrative staff
members, because it promotes togetherness and the outdoors. It also promotes coming
together as one and achieving greatness. This slogan appeals to the target public as
Achievers because they work together to achieve one common goal and they each
have the companys success at mind. The Makers also appeals to the target public
because they have strong outdoor interests and enjoy making things and creating things
based off their hard work. This expresses that hard work and persistence pays off. It
also expresses that when one person has a vision and a dream that they followed
through with it and did not give up. This is something that You Do You truly believes in.
Furthermore, Benjamin Hays strongly believes in this as his passions in life derive from
being outdoors and making other people happy.
Spokesperson:
The spokesperson for You Do You Apparel will be Benjamin Hays, the co-founder and
Chief Design Officer of You Do You. Benjamin is currently getting his degree in Apparel
Merchandising and Design at Auburn University, one of the top apparel design schools
in the nation. You Do You Apparel just began earlier this year; they are just getting their
foot in the door in regards to small business ownership. Benjamin Hays is connected to
the target public first hand as he is the co-founder and CDO, and as well one of the
members of the five administrative staff members. Benjamin Hays also connects to the
Achievers and Makers, as he is the ultimate Achiever and Maker of the company.
Benjamin Hays truly longs for success in achieving the companys short-term and longterm goal but at the same time making the best designs and apparel he and his staff
can be proud of.

19

Katherine Rodriguez

Spokes Entity:

Building a company takes courage.

Achieving success takes dedication.
Collaboration creates victory.
This spokes entity is the best one for You Do You Apparel because it connects to the
target public demographics by showcasing togetherness and cohesiveness as well as
the outdoors and hard work. The target public is directly correlated to the companys
success, which is why I chose the entity that I did with the people around the tree
holding hands demonstrating working together and the outdoors. This spokes entity also
showcases that teamwork is vital to success and can only be achieved if the staff works
together to accomplish a common goal. This spokes entity appeals to Achievers
because it recognizes team and individual achievement. It also appeals to Makers
because each member brings something different to the table to create and make
something unique so that the consumers feel that they can truly express themselves
with the outdoors, hence the tree. Furthermore, the message connects to the entity by
expressing cohesiveness, teamwork, and collaboration.

Section Three:
Communication Tactics

21

Katherine Rodriguez

Event Description:
The five administrative staff members of You Do You Apparel will partner with Camp
Marymount located in Fairview, Tennessee at 1318 Fairview Blvd. Camp Marymount is
a large outdoor retreat style camp in the woods. It focuses on team building exercises to
bring more closeness to a group of people. The five members will compete in team
building exercises around the campgrounds. The event will take place on May 14, 2016
from 9:00a.m. to 1:00p.m. Because You Do You Apparel focuses on activities outdoors
and emphasizes on getting outdoors, Camp Marymount is a perfect connection for
them. They are both local businesses and it is important to build these connections
especially with fellow business partners who also advocate for being outdoors. Camp
Marymount will provide all of the necessary indoor and outdoor space at the course
located in Fairview. Qualified staff members of Camp Marymount will be on site to
inform and guide the You Do You Apparels members. They will also provide all of the
necessary hydration essentials. The Camp Marymount outdoor team building exercises
will allow the target public (the five administrative staff members of You Do You Apparel)
to develop their team building skills, encouraging togetherness among the five
members, and most importantly to have a day of fun away from the business side. Upon
completion of the program, Camp Marymount will provide Hunt Brothers Pizza to the
five members, as Hunt Brothers Pizza is a partner of Camp Marymount.
In addition to the team building retreat program, spokesperson and co-founder of You
Do You Apparel, Benjamin Hays, will have an opportunity to speak to his fellow
coworkers and question them about topics like attitudinal changes and team work.
Along with this, the spokes entity will be referred to, as it represents closeness and
being outdoors to accomplish more cohesiveness and team building, which is what
Camp Marymounts main purpose is. This camp retreat will be paid for by the allotted
budget for this plan. All participants for this retreat will be notified by email and by oral
announcements made by Benjamin. A press release and pitch letter will be sent to
Native Media (Nashvilles Culture/Outdoors Magazine). All five staff members will
complete feedback forms after completion of the retreat program to rate their success
and thoughts of the program. There will also be updates made via social media to
inform the customers and competitors about the success of the event.

22

Katherine Rodriguez

Event Rationale:
The main reason of the Camp Marymount retreat program is to strengthen the
relationships and leadership between and of each member of the target public. The five
administrative members were able to focus on team building exercises as well as being
able to still have fun while doing so. This program allows each of the five members to
take a break from the real world to enjoy what they love the most, being outdoors. They
are able to focus on themselves and the future of the company by doing something fun
and interactive. This event will be designed to focus on each Achiever and Maker in a
way that is focused on team building.
Makers are focused on their personal skills and want to protect what they believe is
theirs. Each member of You Do You Apparel firmly believes that the company is their
baby and with that mentality and the mentality of Makers, it will drive them to rely on
themselves and their team to accomplish the goals that they want to achieve. Makers
also love being outdoors and are full of energy. Therefore, because each member
thoroughly enjoys being outdoors, this will give them another reason to be successful in
the retreat program. You Do You Apparel also is filled with Achievers. Achievers are selfmotivated and always want to accomplish goals. They are dedicated to their work and to
their families and know how to balance each to remain involved with both. Since Camp
Marymounts goal is to accomplish team building and togetherness, the Achievers will
want to succeed because they believe in achieving goals as well.
Camp Marymount, located in Fairview, Tennessee, is the ideal location to host this
event for the administrative staff members because of the program design that focuses
on doing exercises which encourage team building and leadership. Camp Marymounts
specialized retreat program will cater to the needs of the staff members of You Do You
Apparel by promoting harmony and unity.

statement offer correlation with each other because it states that adventure in nature will
reveal something about the customers that will strengthen their individuality. Because of
this, the five staff members will be able to get more out of the program with being

Dear Jeremy:
On Saturday May 14th 2016, the administrative staff members of You Do You Apparel
completed a team building retreat program at Camp Marymount on their campgrounds
in Fairview, Tennessee.
The five administrative staff members spent the morning completing exercises that
helped them bond and strengthen their communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
With a goal of trying to expand to ten more employees in the next five years, You Do
You Apparel saw that it was time to bring the current five members closer so they can
be ready to hire employees in the future. The trained employees at Camp Marymount
guided the five staff members with a 100% completion rate.
The staff members of You Do You were able to take advantage of an amazing program
that was just a couple of miles away from them. Because of this, this program has
created a connection with the two companies now. With Camp Marymount being so well
known around Nashville and even through other states, this will help You Do You
Apparel gain more connections. I hope that you will be able to inform further Nashville
