I am writing in response to the opening of the Winter 2016 RN New Grad Residency Program at UCLA Health. I am currently enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program at the University of Arizona and will graduate in December 2015. As a student, my clinical rotations and experiences have allowed me to practice my nursing skills in several different hospitals throughout Tucson, AZ. For instance, working on a pediatric medical-surgical unit with 4-5 patients with different acuities required me to prioritize my tasks, and organize my day effectively. In order to prioritize my tasks, I had to assess and critically think about my patients needs. Nursing school has also allowed me the opportunity to work in teams to plan and implement several interventions around the community, which enabled me to develop a strong appreciation for research and evidence-based nursing practice. My volunteer experience in health care has helped me build a strong foundation in caring for patients and their families. As a summer volunteer at the Phoenix Children's Hospital, I worked in the Emergency Department, NICU, and Rehabilitation unit. Working on these units enabled me to communicate with pediatric patients and their families effectively. In addition, providing assistance around the nurses' station enhanced my clerical skills. My main task as a volunteer was to ensure that all patients and families were as comfortable as possible, which allowed me to gain experience assessing patient's basic needs. My work experience in health care has shaped me in becoming a highly compassionate and motivated nurse. This summer I worked as a nursing assistant at Camp Lokanda in New York, where I cared for children between the ages of 7 and 16. This enabled me to further appreciate working with pediatric patients and their families. This position also provided me with the opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team to ensure that all patients received quality care in an effective and timely manner. For example, during sick calls the health center staff would see at least 40 patients at one time and my responsibility was to triage patients and work with doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, and other camp staff to ensure that all campers were treated appropriately. I have included a resume to provide you with more details about my experiences and background. I would enjoy speaking to you further about my complimentary skills for the RN New Grad Residency Program. I am eager to apply my energy, experiences, and enthusiasm to this position and look
forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your time and consideration. Sincerely, Dalina Alvizo 602-820-3788 dalina93@email.arizona.edu
