    This was the first major study to look at the effect of artificially fluoridating water by comparing the town of Grand Rapids (fluoridated) versus Muskegon (non-fluoridated). The findings showed up to a 54% reduction in cavities in children. Note that this experiment is looking at sodium fluoride as opposed to the far more common fluosilicic acid industrial waste product now used by most municipalities.
