Comments on professional knowledge, relative to this stage in the course
‘Amelia got to know the students very quickly at the start of her placement, not only on a personal
level but she was able to develop an understanding of each student’s working level. She worked
with groups of students with varied abil
ies and was able to vary the level of work accordingly.
When interacting with the students she worked to build a positive rapport with each student and
played interest in things that were going on in their lives and talked about the things that they
showed interest in. The students enjoyed this personal connection with her.
When planning Amelia was very aware of referring to the AusVels curriculum to ensure she knew
what was the expected standard and focus for each topic. She worked well with our Essential
learnings for our maths unit and was able to plan lessons that addressed each essential learning
with clear focus. Her planned activities were engaging and she used tools and ideas that would
hook even the most unwilling workers, She worked on developing each lesson to so that a
concept was taught succinctly and the students’ understanding was built on with appropriateMaster of Teaching (P-12)

Comments on professional practice, relative to this stage in the course
‘Amelia was well planned for every lesson. She was very proactive in put in the time to research
activities and online resources to enhance each one of her lessons and always came up with a
number of ideas or possibilities to teach a concept. She was successful in incorporating a range of
technological devices and applications into her lessons which proved to be very engaging for the
students. These methods were also beneficial to her lessons as they supported her teaching and
explanation.
‘Amelia displayed appropriate behaviour management strategies for her level of experience. She
made her expectations regarding behaviour clear to the students and was able to remain control
of the students within her set boundaries. The rapport she worked to build with the students
assisted her in this. Amelia was also aware of the need to ensure that during her lessons a safe,
supportive environment was formed and student felt comfortable to accept the challenge of each
task and supported to learn from any errors that were made. She verbally encouraged all students
to have a go and try their best.
Amelia had clear goals regarding what she wanted each student to be able to do during each
lesson. She generally reflected after each lesson as to which students were successful and noted
the areas that still needed to be worked on. Amelia developed and implemented mini test on the
topic of shape to access the progress during our unit.Master of Teaching (P-12)

GENERAL COMMENTS and RECOMMENDATIONS
General comments and overall evaluation
Amelia contributed greatly to our classroom and whole learning centre during her time with us.
She assisted staff in a number of ways and was a wonderful support to students and teachers. Her
teaching practice improved as her familiarity with our routine and learning environment increased.
‘Amelia accepted the challenge of teaching different cohorts of students, teaching students not
from our homeroom and was able to quickly develop working relationships with them, She
developed her confidence and was willing to have a go at anything, at the end of her placement
taking control of the running of the class with appropriate authority and solid teaching practice.
Amelia was always endeavouring to implement activities that would allow the students to learn to.
the highest level they could while ensuring that they would be engaged and enjoy the experience.
She not only considered individual lessons but planned for sequential learning opportunities.
‘Amelia showed that she was willing to learn from her previous experiences and worked to improve
small aspects of her teaching practice from lesson to lesson.Master of Teaching (P-12)
Relative to this stage in the course, strong performance was demonstrated in ...
- Amelia displayed very good development in her ability to ask open questions which allowed the
students fully display their understanding and they were prompted to extend their thinking. She
became better at probing for more information and asking questions that allowed for more
varied answers. She also displayed the ability to ask questions that allowed discussions to be
constructed for rich conversation and learning opportunities.
- Amelia was also very good at planning for and including relevant teaching resources such as
youtube video clips, which supported the lesson focus and engage the students. She taught
using current teaching practices that suited the learning styles and capabilities of our students.
- Amelia was confident and efficient in acknowledging what students needed to know from using
the AusVels curriculum. She showed solid understanding in the need to be clear on what she
had to teach, before thinking about how to teach it.
Relative to this stage in the course, particular attention is necessary in ...
- When introducing a new concept or an extension of a topic, | encourage Amelia to be clear in
her explanation. She needs to take it in small steps and breaking the ideas down to ensure that
all students are following. Be careful to make sure that she is not making assumptions about
what the students know or what they have retained from the previous lessons.
Likewise when explaining a task or activity ensure all students are clear on what is expected of
them and the requirements of the tasks. Reinforce the steps and the expectations for behaviour
before setting the students off to work.
- While Amelia’s behaviour management was good with the many different personalities we have
in this class, | encourage her to work on developing processes in which she is comfortable with
and with she finds effective for managing different situations where students are causing
distraction to others.
To best promote this pre-service teacher's development, I/we recommend ...
- Amelia continue with the positive approach she displayed during her placement.
- Work on building practices that she would like to implement in her classroom, such as
behaviour management strategies.
~ Before teaching a new concept, break it down into small steps and be clear about how to she
wants to explain it to others.
In my opinion AMELIA YOUNG |S ready to teach (full-time pre-service teachers only).
