MARGARET KENYATTA, THE FIRST LADY OF

THE REPUBLIC OF KENYA, DURING THE HANDING OVER OF
THE 35TH BEYOND ZERO MOBILE CLINIC TO NYAMIRA
COUNTY ON 2ND DECEMBER, 2015
Distinguished Guests,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Greetings. Bwairire Mwensi.
I am pleased to be here today to hand over the 35th fullykitted Beyond Zero Mobile Clinic to Nyamira County. Thank you for
your warm welcome.
Your county is the land of bananas and is endowed with
vast resources,
one
of
which
is a
youthful and
energetic population that is full of innovative ideas. Please
support them to translate their ideas into business start-ups.
In addition, Nyamira grows tea, coffee, cassava, sweet potatoes
and delicious traditional vegetables. It is good for the county
government to look into ways of processing these crops locally so
that the benefits of value addition can trickle down into farmers
pockets. I am very happy to see that you have preserved your
forests and your trees which ensure that Nyamira has sufficient
rainfall throughout the year.
On health, various initiatives have been undertaken aimed
at improving facilities and services for the people of
Nyamira. These projects include the construction of new health
facilities, rehabilitation of old ones, acquisition of critical
equipment
like dialysis machines and setting
up of
CT
scan imaging services.

Through the partnership between the county government and the

ADRA-Czech Republic Organization, Itibo SDA Health Centre has
been upgraded into a functional and fully equipped
outpatient facility. It now has an operational delivery room,
maternity ward, a functional dental unit, inpatient wards
andcapacity to conduct minor surgeries.
I encourage the county government to explore ways of expanding
this
co-operation
to
include
exchange
programmes
for local medical students
to
benefit
from
the
advanced medical expertise from the Czech Republic.
Kenya is blessed to have one of the largest concentrations of
mobile telephones across the world. We should leverage
their use in the area of health to help address the challenges
facing our communities in their homes and villages. For example,
the location and services of the mobile clinic that I hand over
today can be advertised more easily in local language via
mobile phone.
Similar
methods can be
used to
caution
people
how to
avoid danger during El-Nino rains, thus minimizing loss of lives
and
they
can also
be
used
to
educate farmers
on
emerging farming technologies,
give
ideas
on valueaddition methods, where to access markets and how to reduce
the high levels of post-harvest losses.
I congratulate the governors spouse, Mrs. Naomi Nyagarama, for
her efforts inchampioning the empowerment of women at all
levels
and for leading
the
fight
against Female
Genital
Mutilation. Well done Naomi lets keep the girls safe and in
school!!
I also urge all the youth to steer clear of risky behavior that may
put them in danger of contracting HIV/AIDS. You are our precious
children and we want you to grow up happy and healthy.
