Professional Growth Plan

Within my first year of teaching, I would like to extensively network at my

school. I would like to connect with other teachers to gain resources and advice that
will familiarize myself with the school and benefit my growth as an educator. Within
the first year I would also like to become a leader at my school. I would like to unite
with other staff and students to become very involved with the community that
surrounds the school and make it a better place. Within my classroom, I would like
to stay consistent with my initial set of expectations throughout the school year and
remain objective with every student. I would like to establish in the beginning of the
year that I would like to connect with students parents by exhibiting open lines of
communication. I would like to apply inquiry based learning, connect every lesson to
their lives outside of the classroom, and challenge my students with high-order
thinking. At the end of the school year, I would like to have at least eighty percent
of my students pass my course.
After five years of teaching I would like to have become very established in
my school. I would like to have created a leadership club after school for students to
join to enhance their involvement within their school and community. This club
would be heavily based on volunteering, which would help them satisfy their
community service requirement for graduation. I would have also liked to have
created an after school writing club that students can join. The club would help
students learn strategies of becoming a better writer and help them learn how to
write creatively. I would have liked to further my professional relationship with my
colleagues and create units with them where students can apply their knowledge
across all of their courses. With the colleagues that I have connected with, I would
like to have lead an overseas trip for students, to further their education on content
that they learned throughout their courses. As well as goals for my school, I have
personal goals for myself that I would have liked to accomplish after five years of
teaching. I would have liked to have gotten my Masters Degree in English and be
certified to teach another content area, like history. I would also like to teach
courses at a local community college or at another higher education institution.
I would also like to get involved with professional organizations that will
further my growth as an educator. I would like to join the AzTEA so that I can learn
more about how to bring technology into the classroom when it is appropriate and
will further the students understanding of the lesson. I would also like to join TESOL
so that I can become connected with other schools and resources around the world.
I will use these connections to assist me in leading the overseas trip. I would also
like to join the National Council of Teachers of English so that I can attend
conferences and gain resources to further my growth as an educator. I would also
like to be involved with Changing Hands so that I can provide my students with a
widespread amount of resources that are related to English. I would like to connect
with Changing Hands in the hopes that they would provide my school with books in
the library and opportunities to get involved with the community that surrounds my
school.
