In the United States, the rise in ethnic diversity due to immigration in recent decades has
greatly increased. Looking back at the beginning of America, what helped it become known to be
the Great Power with the help of immigrants; such as Irish, Chinese, Japanese, Hispanics, and
much more. They poured their sweats and even risked their lives for cheap labor and helped into
the making of railways and factories. Immigrants kept producing military equipment during the
wars while the American men fought. They helped stabilized and met the demands, though today
people do not hear a single thing about any other ethnicity other than hispanics. The United
States needs to create better immigration policies that will benefit both immigrants and the
United States by reforming the immigrant policy because they contribute economically to the
United States.
The government turned their backs to the cries of need and the media helped set racial
discrimination towards people that have the description of a "Hispanic immigrant. Media and
policymakers target undocumented latino immigrants, thinking of ways to prevent them from
coming over to the United States by increasing more portal at the border. The Media manipulates
and influences the audience's perspective into believing that they do not want Hispanic
immigrants. The media air negative outlets of how the increase of Hispanic immigrants are the
main cause of lost jobs, lower wages, stolen taxpayer resources, and increased numbers of
crimes. The negative outlets from the government and media have helped create anti-

immigration groups. Citizens view immigrants as dangerous people seeking entry into the United
States and that they are a threat to the citizens because once one immigrant does a crime, it
negatively reflects upon the rest. As discussed by David Becerra, a professor from Arizona State
University who published an article called The Impact of Anti-Immigration Policies and
Perceived Discrimination in the United States on Migration Intentions among Mexican
Adolescents explains that people who choose to migrate take the risk in order to provide for
their families back at home and there is a high level of discrimination towards Mexicans. Becerra
states that, Recent political activities related to Mexican immigration to the USA, including the
rise of the Minutemen border vigilante group, the crackdown against undocumented immigrants
and the negative depiction of Mexican immigrants in the US media, may lead to an increase in
the perception of discrimination against Mexican immigrants in the USA (21). By trying to
execute hispanics immigrants from America, the United States is portraying Hispanic immigrants
as unwanted pests that have no right to be here even if they left behind their homes and entered
into an unknown territory in order to find a better life and future for themselves and families.
Most Hispanic immigrants are hard working people occupying any jobs with little pay that can
barely support them and their children. For years, there have been shocking hostile articles
published in places, such as The Los Angeles Times that Hispanic immigrants are being perceived
as criminals, dependent, poor, and unable or unwilling to assimilate. Citizens do not hear that
immigrants pay sales taxes when they make purchases and pay property taxes for the housing
they rent or own. Negative portrayals of Hispanic immigrants in the press are wrong to
stereotype them as people who are leeching off the country. In the media they do not broadcast
about the cruel actions that the Minutemen have taken it into their own power to hunt and gun
down immigrants illegally because they simply felt it was their obligation as an American

citizen. Not only do immigrants get treated as pests, but people who have characteristics of
immigrant as portrayed in the media also feel the heat of tension.
Hispanics often experience ethnic discrimination which leads to poor health because
Hispanic immigrants are afraid of receiving help. Thomas F. Brezenski, who has a Ph. D and is
an Associate professor of Political Science and LSAC Prelaw Advisor, published a book called
Journal of Multidisciplinary Research. Brezenski reveals that There were multiple unreported
incidences where U.S. citizens were asked for verification based purely on their skin tone or
conversing in Spanish in public places (27). There are racial characterizations when one thinks
of an Hispanic immigrant, but by simply blindly judging someone by the color of their skin and
choice of language is out of line for law enforcement to do without question. Discrimination
encountered by immigrants can lead to stress (Becerra 21). Immigrants avoid seeking medical
attention because they want to avoid places that could report them back to their homeland, which
leads to negative strains on them. They just wanted to live or work in the United States, but what
they did not know is that when setting foot on American solid, they will remain living in stress
and fear of deportation. By deporting immigrants, it would impact heavily on the children they
could possibly have. People treat them as inferior and greatly believe that immigrants are
stealing Americans jobs. What people do not seem to understand is that many factories require
immigrants strength in order to keep up with the demands and economically support America.
Citizens claim that immigrants are stealing American jobs, but even Hispanic immigrants
are suffering in providing for their families in United States. It is no secret that the rejection of
former President Bushs immigrant amnesty measure that was killed in the U.S. Senate in 2007
was representative of a backlash against Hispanic migrant farm workers who were viewed
erroneously as stealing jobs from U.S. citizens (Brezenski 26). Most jobs now require

identification papers. Which indicates that immigrants are also having difficulties on landing on
a job, but they are not the only ones suffering. Jimnez declares that Mexican immigrants are
practically the only source of agricultural labor in the fields around the city (604). Immigrants
take the hard working jobs that no one wants and even with little pay. Business owners hire
mainly immigrants because they save money by employing undocumented Hispanics who are
willing to take any job no matter the task. They are an important contribute to United States
productivity growth. The United States needs all the help it can take with the heavy amount of
debt it is in. For the government to deport them back to their homeland for being an immigrant is
going to harm the economy of United States more since they are the main source that contributes
to America greatly.
Mexican Americans feel the heat of hostility because of the many outlets of anti-Mexican
groups. Many respondents noted that they do, in fact, face discrimination because of stereotypes
about Mexican nativity and legal status (Jimnez 608). As a result of the stereotypes that have
been inflicted onto immigrants, citizens that have similar characteristics suffer from
discrimination as well. Being of Mexican descent is now something to be ashamed of because
they get a different treatment compared to white folk. Shopping at stores or any event they go to,
eyes are always following them because people view them as criminals. Mexican Americans
struggle to maintain their identity because it has been known that schools do Americanize
Hispanic immigrant children. That should not be the case because as made clear by Jimnez that
they are the main source of agricultural labor and are a great value to increasing economically so
Mexican Americans should not feel ashame. All the negative outlets does not contribute
anything good and wastes money, policy makers and citizens need to come together pushing

aside their differences in order to create a new reform immigrant policy that will benefit
everyone.
The problem of immigration can be solved if policymakers reform the immigrant policy.
It will, however, take time, money, and a combined effort from the citizens. It will be worth a
while because it will settle down the disagreement that has been going on for a long while.
Discrimination set by the media should be put an end to help build trust with the immigrants and
government so immigrants can get the proper help they need. The increase of immigrants has
only benefited the United States because there are more minority representatives that does
positivity reflects citizens needs. People need to understand that the United States suffers
because millions of money is being spent on a delusion of keeping immigrants from coming in
the country. Immigrants came to America to get a better economic opportunity and to be able to
support their families by working hard. They took a tremendous risk coming to America, but they
were able to continue on the harsh journey in pursue of a better life. America has been known to
be a mixing pot of different cultures influence. It is best to embrace immigrants than chasing
them away.
