Midterm Reflection
Throughout the UWRT 1103 class, we have been given assignments such as
journals, projects, and research assignments. I cannot say that I have been the most
active student when it comes to journals but, I believe that as a student I have one
of the most creative ideas for research. I have chosen my topic to be What is
Success. My method of research will be good balance between books and online
articles pertaining to many aspects of what success is. I have gone back and edited
one journal during this course in order to make my point a more easily
understandable topic. Based on my performance as a student I would give myself
an A minus. I believe that through the work I have done I deserve it. I say an A
minus due to my missing journal entry.
I believe that I have been an active contributor in this class as far as
participation is concerned. I have always spoken up to answer questions or give my
two cents about a topic. I believe I deserve an A for my participation in the class.
Even beyond just the class, I have been an avid participator within my group. I am
by no means a shy person and many of the people in my group are. I have been
able to successfully use my extroverted personality to help my house to work well
together.
The discovery and proposal has been the main topic of conversation in this
class so far. I have not been able to make it as far as some of the other students in
class on it but, I have finally been able to pick out a solid topic that I believe I can do
well with. I chose to change my original topic after we evaluated each others rough
drafts. I received very insightful feedback and realized through the comments that
my topic was not broad enough for me to expand upon.
The three discussions our class held about, shitty first drafts, understanding
types of writing, and Into the Wild, yielded to be very helpful for me personally. Each
discussion helped answer questions I had about different aspects of our essay. I
learned that it benefit me to put together a solid rough draft to help kick start my
final essay. Into the Wild was a great discussion because, our class had an
argumentative discussion about priorities. This discussion is what inspired my essay
topic.
I would say that I should be graded as an above average student. I say above
average because, I understand that I have not been to poster child for going above
and beyond in this class. I do, however; believe that my quality of work has been at
a level that is above the average student in this class currently. I would say that I
produced work that would be adequate to receive a B in the course. As stated in the

Grading Expectations Chart, A B essay/project is clearly above average and does

more than just meet the requirement of the assignment. This explanation of what
is required to receive a B in the class fits my progress so far very well.
In conclusion I believe that I can do a better job of keeping track of journals
and online quizzes. Checking Moodle on a regular basis has not been a strong suit of
mine. I see myself being able to produce work that would adequate to receive an A.
