Interview

2113

Today is Monday 12 of October 2015. I will have an interview with

my MST. The interview place is in Alandalous school, specifically in
the teachers classroom. I searched and read about how may I
choose the questions related to classroom management. Also, I
collected some information about the teacher to know about her
more.
Her name is Hessa Nasser, she teaches English subject for grade
three. She has four sections, and in each section there are twenty
five students. All the students are Arab students. Furthermore, in
one of the sections she teaches two of special needs students.
Nonetheless, the teacher never lets these two students feel
different than the other. However, this year is the first year for her
that she teaches grade three. Even though she had been taught
for six years.
The purpose of this interview is to get benefit from her experience
and expertise on the strategies employed in classroom
management. So, I prepared 17 different educational questions
related to the classroom management.

Interview questions:
Good morning Ms. Hessa. I will have an interview with you about
classroom management. If you ready I will start the interview.
1. What make you to be a teacher?

teacher job. Moreover, teaching in schools like as dream comes
true. And, from my opinion teaching is the most suitable job for
women.

I taught for six years, and this is my seven year. And, for Sure,
my first year was different from now because, with each year I get
experience in teaching. Also, beside I teach the students I learn
as well.

3. Where did you study?

Higher college of technology or as its known HCT. I studied for
four years and I get an excellent grade.
4. What is your most difficult problem you face in
teaching?
Teacher chores, I used to work other jobs than teaching. For
instance, organizing students in the assembly and doing outside
activities such as, take students to trip.
5. Tell me your general concept about teaching?
I think teaching is everything. Its a way of raising children, build
their knowledge, and show them the future. Well, I like teaching.
6. Do you think teaching is acquired or learned?
Its both, sometimes you have the skills and some skills you have
to learn. But, if you just depend on your abilities, your job as a
teacher will be difficult. As much as you practice you will be a
better teacher. Thats why in the college there is a teacher
practice (TP) course.
7. What are the rules you used in your classroom? Why?
My rules are: speak English all the time, raise your hand to speak,
respect your teacher and friends, do your homework, come to the
class on the time, bring your books and materials, keep the class
clean and tidy, and work with your partner in the group. And each
rule represent with a sign or pictures and what make me use

pictures is to make the rules simple, direct, and easy to

remember. The reasons I used these rules because I want to make
sure that the students learn in a positive, safe, and secure
environment. And why that, because if one student behave well
the other students will learn the same behavior. That depends on
what Bandora who known as a psychologist, said we learn and
copy behavior from each other.

8. Do you think having rules in the classroom depend on

the age of the students? If yes why, if no, why not?
Yes, because children grow with different cognitive and behavior
skills. For example, student in seven or eight years old behave
and think differently than student in sixteen or seventeen years
old. And so, the rules should fit the way that each generation
thinks.
9. What do you think the most important thing you have
to do every day for the students? Why?
Have a good relationship with the students. Talking with them
informally, treat them like my kid, and ask about them every day.
These will make the students like the teacher. As a consequence,
they will like the school, get better teaching and learning, and
impact their attitude in the school.
10.

How do you prepare your classroom before the

lesson?

Prepare the materials, make sure the seating arrangement( if

groups, pairs, or individually), ensure the goals are written on the
board, review the lesson plan, and check the worksheets.
11.

What are the skills you used to keep the students

For me the skills of organization are the key of success. The role
model plays a huge role in keeping students organize and active.
And that, when I show them how Im a committed teacher, and
how I care about being organized in the classroom. Also, keep
your promises (the gift that related to the reward system for
example).

12.

What do you think is the most important skill in

classroom management?

I think there is more than one skill. Make routine in the classroom.
If you have a routine the students will help you as a teacher in
management. They will follow the same routine everyday as the
way you want. Adding to that, using the reward system and praise
students. According to Skinner, who known as model linguistic,
behavior is followed by a consequence, and the nature of the
consequence modifies the organisms tendency to repeat the
behavior in the future. Furthermore, having rules in the
classroom. Keep following the rules and applying them in your
class. As a result, it makes the student discipline and organized .
13.
Do you think using a variety of techniques in the
classroom help controlling students behavior? How?
Yes. Students have different types of personality and learning
style. So, you need to vary your techniques to suitable their
personality.
14.
What is the most important factor in the
classroom impact positively on the students
behavior? How?

Najat Abdulkariem

If you keep the classroom rules clear and direct from the first day.
Inform the students about your rules, personality, and your
expectation. In consequence, you will easily create a positive
environment and good relationship. Adding to that, the students
will feel safe, secure, and fair. Moreover, they will know you and
understand what they have to do, which lead them to behave
positively.
15.

From your experience, why do students

misbehave? Give me an example.

Sometimes for attention-seeking. Thats mean the student tries

hard to show herself, and always wants caring and praising from
the teacher. For example: I have a student who always shouts
when she wants to answer, and when I give her the chance to
answer she stood in the middle of the class to say the answer!
Adding to that, students may didnt inform about the rules and
some of the students get a genetic problem. Nevertheless, we
should focus on teaching the students how they should behave,
because its impact on their academic life and their future.
16.

From your opinion, what are the reasons that

enhance students to learn?

Using different teaching techniques and make the students

curiosity is one of these techniques. For instance, show the
students realia, give them different activities, and connect the
lesson to their life.
17.

What language you use to interact with

students?

In both languages. I use English when I teach or explain the

lesson and formal conversation. However, I use Arabic in informal
conversation and sometimes to translate the difficult meaning for
the students. Why use Arabic in person? Because they dont have

enough vocabulary to express what they want. Also, its a way to

build relationship between me and the students.
