1. In 1998 Google was first developed by two Stanford University PhD scholars.
Then the program was referred to as BackRub until they made it into a URL at
a later time. They introduced the concept of Page Ranking so that the search
engines did not simply count the website hits while showing the search results on
the WWW (World Wide Web) (Goel & Stonecypher, 2012). Through this
innovation they were able to bring to us today one of the largest companies of all
time. This company has not just made boundless knowledge available to the
public, they have also created a digital map that allows the user to navigate to any
location around the world. Personally I have used this to navigate my way
through larger cities and find my way around an unknown town. In the past
years Google has also developed a search for scholarly journals much like the way
the Morehead Library site has done. I have used Google Scholar to find articles
which I would use in my papers and other assignments. A way that this
technology could be harming the populous is by the Google Effect. The
Google Effect the thought that our reliance on the internet is making us
dumber was first put forward by Professor Betsy Sparrow of the University of
Columbia, Professor Daniel Wegner of Harvard University and Jenny Liu of the
University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2011 (Munson, 2015). The Google Effect is
an ever growing belief that the excessive use of search engines such as Google will
cause long term damage on a persons ability to recognize simple general
knowledge.

2. Nikola Tesla was one of the most influential mechanical engineers of the 20 th
century, he had many patents from all the different innovations he created. He
had made it his personal goal to make mechanical engineering as productive as
possible. He began with the field of electrical power utilization. Tesla pointed
out the inefficiency of Edisons direct current electrical powerhouses that had
been built up and down the Atlantic seaboard (Vujovic, 1998). He was able to
spot that direct current power was a weaker source of power and that there was a
need for the weaker source of energy to be perfected. He responded with his
innovations with the alternating current system. His work with AC motors had
proven to be very successful in supplying a more powerful source of energy.
However, in an effort to smear one of his greatest competitors, Thomas Edison
used one of Teslas AC generators to put a death row inmate to death. The effects
displayed how potentially unstable the generator could be.
Although his rival had been successful in trying to smear one of Teslas greatest
achievements, it did not stop Tesla from furthering his invention. Being backed
by George Westinghouse it gave Tesla the financial freedom to further his work
with AC current systems. In February 1882, Tesla discovered the rotating
magnetic field, a fundamental pprinciple in physics and the basis of nearly all
devices that use alternating current (Vujovic, 1998). Contributions such as these
are testaments to how much Nikola Tesla had effected the engineering world. He
had proven himself time and time again as a superior inventor in the eyes of his
peers and even up against his rival. He had paved the road for many modern
innovations that would run on his AC motors.

Prestige, Professional Environment, Technological and Scientific Discovery,

Creative Thinking

There are many differences between the three jobs listed above; skilled worker,
technician, and engineer. The engineer requiring at least a bachelors degree earns
the larger salary at around $66,000. A technician can earn a medial level salary at
$42,000 in between an engineer and skilled worker who earns about $39,000.
Technicians and engineers are very similar due to the fact that they both require
some schooling in order to really work in those fields. Skilled workers do not need
any type of schooling they normally just require some previous work of some kind to
show that they are capable workers.
