Part 2: Meta-Reflection
Looking back on the work that I have done in the course I can definitely say that I have
better understanding of the world of work and how to navigate it. The strong inventory gave me
good insight into my personality and the career genogram gave me a certain understanding into
career patterns in my family that have shaped me to date. I learned a lot about myself in this
class. I was able to pinpoint that I like a faster paced career type and seeing a project go start to
finish. I had an idea that I wanted to work in the field of public relations and that was cemented.
A big part of this decision being finalized. It is helpful to have my eportfolio because the results
of my strong inventory test are something that can definitely serve me well as I enter the working
world.

My thinking was greatly changed on the day of my job shadow. It was one thing to learn
about networking and things of that nature, but when I finally got the chance to put a lot of the
things that we had been learning about into practice. It started with just going on the job shadow,
but I was able to put a lot of things into practice. I learned the importance of being
knowledgeable going into something like a job shadow. I made sure to look up the person I was
going to being following around for the day. This allowed me to carry on conversation more
easily and it also resulted in me being made aware of a potential internship opportunity. I then
had to be resourceful and use the services of the office of personal and career development to
help me prepare my cover letter and resume. All of the lessons I learned in class were put into
practice in this instance. I think this was very helpful. At the beginning of the course I did not
really know how to go about opportunities like this one. The course made me better understand
how to research and put things into practice. These are skills that will last me for the rest of my
life that I probably would not have developed without this class.
