SMART OBJECTIVES
Students will create a visual representation of the human body.
Recognize the way humans do different than animals.
Develop knowledge of their body parts so that they understand why
those functions help them everyday.
Combine Formative/Summative assessment throught lesson and
have a final exam at the end of the lesson to test knowledge and
skill.
Formative assessment: SmartBoard of a human diagram. Students will take
turns labeling each body part. Then demonstrating where that body part is
on them and explaining what that function is. Paper, crayons, glue students
will then make a representation of themselves on paper.
Formative assessment: Show a educational video about different
movemnents of the body. Inlcude work sheet with questions. So that they
can compare body part functions on themselves.
Using formative assessment you can test the childs knowledge before final
assessment. Learning barrier: Student has trouble comprehending
instruction.
Solution: Write instruction clearly on board. Check for understanding.
Learning barrier: Students are not in control, too much motion and noise
during activity.
Solution: Divide into small groups. Have them share amoungst only their
group.
List and review over classroom expectations. Listen effectively, raise hand,
ask questions when allowed, discuss quietly. Transition quietly when
instructed to.

Introduction
1. Introduce the body parts. Sing head, shoulders, knees, and toes
5min.
2. development: download labeling game on SmartBoard have students
line up and take turns moving the vocabulary to the right parts. 15
minutes
3. Using pictures of different animals have students raise their hands to
point out similarities to human body parts. 5 min.
4. give students time to draw a representation of their human body and
share one thing with the class about 1 part and function. 10-15 min.
Formative Assessment: Starting a discussion. ask classroom to share what
they already know about the human body and functions. Have them raise
their hands to share their answer. Gather background knowledge so you
know what needs more focused on.

Understanding
Assessing the students would have to be done through the observation that
the teacher makes throughout the activity. A checklist will be made
including participation, knowledge of material, fine motor skills and group
work. Art project will show understanding the content taught.
Guided Practice
Interactive instruction between teacher and students. The students will use
the practice process by demonstration what they drew in front of the class:
Describe one function and body part.
Independent
Practice
Students should know how reinforce skills and synthesize their new
knowledge by completing the task on their own way from teachers
guidance. Complete the art project independently: Label own body parts in
representation of themselves.

Review over your lesson plan and redo any mistakes. Make sure the
objective is clear and complete.

Part 2: Create an authentic assessment by creating a portfolio. Your portfolio can inclue this
assignment to show what you learned. Inclue your diagrams, notes about your presentation.
*Portflolios are alternatives to traditional tests because they document the student performance in
outcomes not typically measured by tests that take place over an hour or two.
Materials needed for portfolio: Binder, laminated paper, index cards, and your content.
