ASSESSING & GRADING

There are different ways that teachers can assess and grade students. As a teacher it is
important to be aware that the ways you assess and grade students may be different than another
teachers method. It is also important as a future teacher to plan how you are going to assess and
grade students.
There is no definite way that I can say right now how I plan to assess student learning
exactly until I experience having students at different leaning levels. I have some ideas that I plan
to use but they may change when the time comes to assess actual students in a classroom as their
teacher. I plan on giving my students assessments biweekly on subjects that have been covered
and discussed in class.
These assessments will not be their tests but a simpler version to discover what needs to
be practiced more, and what students are struggling in what areas. I do not plan on grading the
assessments they will simply be for information and for showing progress among students. I also
plan on carefully watching students work and carefully assessing if there are certain areas that
specific students are struggling with.
Something else I plan on using to assess and grade students are anonymous surveys, if the
students are mature enough to handle them. The anonymous surveys would ask the students how
they are feeling in certain areas and have practice problems for them to solve. This could help me
to observe if students are feeling more confident in subjects than they should, or vice versa. It
could also help the students to be anonymous because then they wouldnt feel embarrassed, or
ashamed, if they dont know the information, but I would know that it needed to be covered
again.

ASSESSING & GRADING

I think that when the time comes to asses and grade students as a future teacher I will
know what method will be the most effective after I get to know the students and understand how
they learn. Giving out biweekly assessments, carefully watching their work, and giving out
anonymous surveys are some ways that I plan on assessing student learning.
