Classroom Design
I created my dream classroom with my future preschool students in mind. I tried to
implement different things that would be beneficial to them. Room arrangement and choice of
materials play an important role in childrens education experience (Browne & Gordan, pg. 276).
I put in a discovery center where the children can help take care of plants as well as the
classroom pet. They can also take part in the sand and water table that allow them to explore
further. Another center is the dramatic play center where they can engage in pretend play so that
they can play anything from house, to doctor/patient. The block center and lego centers allow the
children to display their creativity and build whatever they happen to like. The library and
listening center provides them with a quiet area as well as a station that they can look through
their favorite books as well as listen to them. The manipulative table consists of many different
items for them manipulate to their liking all while introducing them to mathematics. The art
center allows the students to express themselves through various enjoyable activities. I
designated four tables for the students when it came down to doing a large group activity as well
as for snack time. The large carpeted area is for when everyone comes together as a class for
story time, a show and tell session, etc. but I also wanted to implement music as a class activity
on the rug instead of putting it into a station. I feel like it allows all of the students to collaborate
and each play a role in the activity. I believe that these stations are appropriate for preschool
children because they complement as well as strengthen their motor, cognitive, creative, social,
and emotional skills.
While creating my dream classroom, I learned that it is important to have a systematic
flow of things and that it is important to establish boundaries and pathways that way the children

can move independently. The only question that I have is how much time is recommended for a
group of students to spend at a center at a time?
