As a Florida Gulf Coast student, I take pride in the way we maintain an environmentally stable
campus and respect the land that our beautiful school lays on. Although FGCU does a great job
with maintaining a green campus, I feel it is very crucial for the future of our school and
environment to practice environmental awareness among new and upcoming FGCU students. I
would like to set up a large clean-up among the FGCU campus as well as the neighboring rivers
and waterways connecting to our oceans. I would like as many students as possible to be
involved in this clean-up and by focusing not only on our campus but other surrounding
environments, this will show our FGCU students why it is so important to preserve our campus
as well as our town.
FGCU has hosted and funded many different events similar to this and have always made an
impact on its students and their values as environmentalist. One event that was very successful
was the FGCU, Wells Fargo team for national make a difference day. More than 300 FGCU
students, alumni, faculty and staff members along with representatives from the financial
services company spread out from Fort Myers to Bonita Springs to Naples to plant trees, clean
up yards and waterways, assemble food pantry packages and more during the annual national
day of service ( Florida Gulf Coast University). This event not only shows how environmental
efforts from FGCU are not limited to our campus, but how FGCU students can work together to
make a difference in our community. FGCU has also hosted a campus clean-up similar to the
event I would like to host but on a smaller scale. The eagle pride campus clean-up was a great
way to get students involved and gave them a sense of pride with the sustainability of their
campus thanks to their hard work. Students were able to work together picking up trash all
around the FGCU grounds maintaining their eco-friendly environment (Eagle Pride Campus
Clean-up).
Expanding Sustainability Awareness
I would like to expand and maintain the student awareness at FGCU by hosting a huge clean-up
starting from FGCUs campus running all the way to the Estero River and into the bay. By
expanding the sustainability from our campus all the way to the river we will help students
understand the importance of our ecosystem and the equilibrium that exist among the entire city.
Students interested in marine science and the aquatic wildlife could partake in trash clean-up

while exploring the river and inland waters on a canoe. I believe that providing the opportunity
to students that have never had the chance to explore the ecosystem of their college town will
only strengthen the desire to maintain not only their campus but their community as well.

Benefits and Expenses

FGCUs Environmental Health and Safety Organization will greatly benefit from this event and
can add it to their history to make the organization far more appealing to all the
environmentalists at FGCU who Want to get involved. This even will cost roughly 9,000 dollars
which is well below budget and the value from it will well outweigh its expenses. This event
would be a two day event to offer a better opportunity for every student to attend and help out. I
have included a detailed cost expense sheet for the event as well as the rundown for each day.

I hope you will consider my request to help maintain the sustainability and awareness of not only
the FGCU grounds, but the surrounding ecosystems that we so desperately need. Please help me
reach out and make a difference once again at the most eco-friendly University around!
