Dear Vanessa
Thank you for having Jon and I visit your class today, Friday June 5th to observe part of your numeracy block,
where students were learning about the language of chance. While in your classroom, we observed and noted
the following;

Throughout the year you have maintained a very high standard of classroom presentation and
organisation. Your classroom is engaging, welcoming and a celebration of student work.
Your teaching style is positive and warm, and you gave effective, precise instructions to students.
Students responded well to you and you managed student behaviour effectively will low level
responses.
It is evident you have reflected and acted upon previous feedback provided. We were pleased to see
you effectively use wait time as an accountability/ questioning strategy and loved that your theme was
evident. Well done!
You effectively checked for student understanding throughout your mat session and ensured students
were accountable and listening by your use of the popsticks to select volunteers to answer questions.
When you were sharing the definition of chance, you selected Connor to give an answer and he was
unable to provide the correct definition. It would have been great to see you come back to him after you
had re-explained the definition, to see if he could respond correctly.
We noted the feedback in the students workbooks has become more meaningful and targeted as the
term has progressed, great job. The use of explicit feedback and criteria based rubrics is excellent to
see. We encourage you to continue developing and exploring effective ways to give feedback.
The word banking strategy where you read a story and the students word banked the chance related
words from the story was effective and very engaging for your students.
Learning themes were clearly evident in your classroom with a number of eye catching wall displays,
appropriate texts and displays of student work. It is also very clear that you have been regularly
updating you displays in your room as there was some very recent work on display from a variety of
learning areas, while still making links to your theme, well done!
Thank you for having your planning for us to view. It was pleasing to see the links to the AC and
differentiation.

Thanks again for having us in your classroom today. It was an excellent lesson, particularly as you were not
feeling very well. It has been impressive to see the growth in your teaching and it is pleasing for us to see you
accessing support within the school to improve the learning outcomes of your students. You continue to be a
valued member of the KPS team and we look forward to watching future lessons and continuing to support you
on your teaching journey.
