LEVEL OF MASTERY
By the end of his or her initial training, the student teacher should be able to :
demonstrate sufficient responsibility in dealings with students that one can recommend with no reservations
that a class be entrusted to his or her care;
Answer to others for his or her actions by providing well-founded reasons.
How have I developed this competency during this course or professional seminar/field experience?

From the very beginning of FE2, as in FE1, I rounded from student to student during individual work, answering
questions, and monitoring for both off-task behaviour and students who may be struggling. In this way I provided
students with appropriate attention and support (feature 3). I helped to manage the classroom in a democratic way,
having the students take a vote for the due-date of an assignment (feature 2). When correcting students tests, I made
sure to stick to my marking scheme, avoiding any form of discrimination towards students. On multiple occasions, I was
trusted by my cooperating teachers to work one-on-one with students requiring extra help, or to manage the class for a
period of 5-10 minutes without them present. On another occasion, when a rather large group of students had missed
class for an extracurricular activity, it was arranged for me to work with these students outside of class time to help them
to catch up on missed work. In these situations I demonstrated sufficient responsibility in dealing with students as my
cooperating teachers had no reservations that a class be entrusted in [my] care.
As an important part of this competency, when speaking with students I ensure that confidentiality is respected at
all times. In general I avoid partaking in gossip, especially within the school staffroom. As a precautionary measure and in
order to further benefit students, I spent most of my spare time planning and preparing for future lessons, and making
myself available for students who needed extra help instead of sitting in the staff room.
