Societys ideal body hurts

Sex in advisement has been one of the most effective ways to sell products to the general
public. Many of these ads show women in sexual poses with little to nothing of clothing selling
items, for example, like a soda or a burger. In this vantage ad, it is advising an item that will help
make a flatter stomach and create a curvier look. In detail, the women are displaying how the
product look on a womans figure and how it give an illusion of a natural round backside and a
flat stomach to create a young and yummy uplift. The title of the ad is Men love Fannies
which how men desires a certain beauty norm of having a curvy body. In other words, this ad is
portraying an ideal body image that the media shows as something women should look like to be
desirable to men. As Ruth Hubbard states in her article Rethinking Womens Biology, she says,
It is not simply womens description of or experience of our biology (Hubbard, 46). It is a
feminine performance to look a certain way as society says that is the ideal look for women.
Although achieving the ideal body image can be empowering to womens confident, self-esteem
and appearance; it can be dangerous because of how women would go to great and risky length
to achieve the body they want by going through illegal surgeries, lethal cosmetic lips or butt
injections, and eating orders. Many would say that it is not a big of an issue for not many women
go through surgeries to get the body shape they want, however for the women who do go through
surgeries, will do anything for achieve it. Body image is something that can be a dangerous

message that media shows for younger generations as it dominates a type of figure that for some
women cannot be achieve therefore, those women who really want that figure will go through
anything to get to that ideal body no matter what happens to themselves in the process even if it
means risking death.
A way the women who are seeking any means to achieve the ideal body are risking death
is with illegal surgeries. This is one of the methods that people perform to avoid paying the high
costs that surgery requires. Plastic surgeries can cost from 5,000 to 15,000 depending on what
procedures you when to perform as it states on the pricing list on Luxxery Surgery Center. Many
of these surgeries are done out the country because they are at a cheaper side of the cost for the
procedures. The cheapest and common places people go to do these procedures are South Korea,
Mexico, and Dominican Republic. These surgeries can help with the cost but even if the cost was
low, it does not mean it would be the same quality as with regular price. Risk that can happen
during or after the procedures are infections, allergic reactions, drop of blood pressure, death of
tissue of the skin and nerve and death. There are many articles that warn people about the danger
of fatal surgeries. For example, there is an article from The New York Post about a woman who
went to do a plastic surgery procedure that went wrong. The woman named is Beverly Brignoni.
Brignoni wanted to get a procedure that was cheaper to do at Dominican Republic than in the
United States. The surgery went wrong as she died from pulmonary embolism. A pulmonary
embolism is obstruction of a pulmonary arteries. The article warn readers how there are fatal
surgeries happening more often out of country. This story can be example of how women would
go to great length to achieve the body they desire even if the risk of death is a factor. There are
other procedures that also can be very lethal

The other procedures of cosmetic are injection of filler or silicone in area such as the butt.
These injection can becomes lethal as many people who perform them do not have the proper
schooling to do so. Many of these cases of death by the cosmetic injections happen through the
black market. The black market is a place where there unlawful buying and selling of goods.
Many people go to the black market because the procedures are half the cost than regular price.
Most of those procedures are done with uncertified doctors and tools that are not qualified to
perform the surgery. Many risks come with butt injection; one being the most important risk,
which is a lethal infection due to the surgery. One article for example, is about a woman who lost
her life due to silicone butt injections. The injections are performed poorly and tools were not
qualify to do the procedure. The two people who did the procedure use super glue as a way to
close the insertion after injecting the buttock. They found her body in the place of the business
with everything the room was cleaned out as well as her purse and phone missing. As the article
written by Naomi Martin states how the women joined a growing number of people who are
turning to the black market buttocks injections- which are much cheaper and risker than plastic
surgery( Martin, The Dallas news). Many women do not want to have to pay all amount for the
surgery plastic surgery which becomes risky when it is done in an unprofessional setting. There
is also another method of injection that women will do when trying to achieve ideal image they
want, which can lead them to having a big infection that will leave them with their lips damage
and have permanent scaring or disfigurement.
Lip injection is a procedure where they inject filler to the lips to make them look fuller in
size. This procedure has become popular due the fact that celebrities like Kylie Jenner has made
it a trend to have full lips. However lips injection does have its bad side effect when not done
properly. This recent year there was a trend call the Kaylie Jenner challenge where people would

use shot glasses or any cup where they fit their lips into, would suck into the cup to make their
lips bigger. Many of the kids who did the challenge had damage done to their lips as they had
bruising, redness, and bleeding. For the cosmetic procedures of lip injections, the risks are the
side effects that can become serious. For example the side effects are infection, lumps, tissue loss
due infection in the blood vessel, scarring and allergenic reaction. As Daily News reports on a
women who was left with a disfigured lips due infection from the filler they injected into her
lips. Many of these procedures are not regulated thus having many stories about the procedures
going wrong. Another method people go through to achieve what they want for themselves is
something that can be a serious illness.
Eating disorders is disorder that effects behavior surrounding issue around weight or
food. Many women would eat little or no food to lose weight so they can become skinner. Other
women would eat food but soon after eating their meal they will proceed with throwing up to
stay thin. There are many eating disorder that people go through. The two example I described
were Anorexia and Bulimia. The concerns for eating disorders is how it can become life
threatening for a persons health as it can create serious consequences. Consequences includes
starvation and suicide as many of the women who have eating disorders have depression. As
statics shows, one in five women struggles with an eating disorder or disordered eating. The
mortality rates for bulimia is three point nine percent, as for anorexia it is four percent. Even
those number are small is still is concerning due the reason it increase in the recent years. As an
article from Daily Mail wrote a story piece on a girl who died in her sleep; suspected that the girl
died of heart failure due to her illness. The girl developed both anorexia and bulimia by the age
of sixteen as she believe she was not beautiful and thought she needed to be thinner. Due to her
illness, she was not able to work as she was to tried and weak to do anything. These illnesses

effect not just the person but everyone around them. The mother of the nineteen year old girl
mentions how she felt helpless as she could not help her daughter get professional help for her
illness, she says, It was hard to get help; I asked them to call her in for something else and then
bring up the eating disorder, but Beth was not a child so I could not force her to get help (daily
news). Mostly of the relationship with family members, with friends and with partners are effect
as they want to help the person they care about with an eating disorders. Many women start out
with diets as they want to receive the ideal body that was want. Most of those women who do
then diets may develop an eating disorder as they thrive to reach their goal and once they achieve
it, they want to go the extra mile as western society would make the ideal body something that
look reachable however, the ideal body itself is something that cannot be reach natural.
Magazines show women who look thin and who are beautiful are people that for someone who
has an eating disorders wants to be. Even if they do achieve the thinness, they still believe that
they did not get what they wanted. Thus, going deeper and deeper with the disorders which can
lead to serious and life threatening complications. However many can argue that ideal body can
improve a woman confidence and can be a good for women in some ways.
Many can say that this is not a big issue to be concern as it only a small amount of cases
where that happens. Reason that people would say it is not a big issues is because not all women
who want to achieve the ideal body they want would go through plastic surgery or not eat to get
thinner. Many women achieve the body they want by exercise and being healthy. Things that
people do that is by losing weight or working for the body they was is by running, going to the
gym and eating the right kind of foods so that they can have to proper nutrition they need.
Women uses diet to lose weight is effective when uses correctly as it can help achieve the body
that want. When they reach that goal they wanted, has a sense of accomplishment as they

reached the ideal body or goal they wanted. However there are many women who want to
improve their body but want to do it other way that they find accessible. As western society
portrays an ideal body that a heterosexual orientation expect to for women. As an article from
Aaron Devor states, a heterosexual orientation requires women to dress, move, speak, and act in
ways that men find attractive (40).
As society has put upon us with the image of an ideal body through ads as they sell
products of items. Many would do risky thing to avoid the high cost thus, risking infection,
permeant damage and even death. Illegal surgeries, lip and butt injections, and eating disorder
are the great lengths and risks many women would take a chance on even if it risking death
during the process as it can come out with complications.
