Teaching and Learning Technology Influences

In an attempt to improve education and keep America's classrooms up-to-date in an increasingly

computerized society, many policy makers have encouraged the use of computers and the Internet in the public
schools. Although local school districts, states and even private donors have been behind many of the efforts to
increase students' access to computers and the Internet, the federal government has taken action as well. In
1996, Congress approved and Clinton signed the Telecommunications Act, a broad overhaul of federal
telecommunication laws. The act laid the groundwork for a new federal program called E-rate, which helps
schools and libraries pay for Internet connections. The 1996 law requires long-distance telephone companies to
pay money into a special fund that helps reduce the cost of connecting schools to the Internet. The telephone
companies pass the cost of the fee on to their customers--a cost of about 30 to 40 cents each month per customer.
Under the plan, schools and libraries receive discounts of between 20% and 90% off normal Internet service
rates. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, a division of the Education Department, 51% of
the classrooms in U.S. public schools had access to the Internet by fall 1998, up from just 27% in 1997.
Supporters credit the E-rate for that increase and say that the program helps close the gap between wealthier
schools and those that would otherwise have trouble paying for Internet connections. Because of the program,
Clinton said, "children in poorer or isolated areas will now have access to the same universe of knowledge as
children in the most affluent suburbs." --------- Federal Support for Technology in the Classroom, 1999.
According to Comp TIA, about 65 percent of teachers believe that students are more productive today
that they were in the pass due to increased reliance on technology in the classroom. Technology have changed
our world both inside and outside the classroom. Once computer systems involves in the classroom, the
possibilities for expanding students capabilities by it use are enormous. To keep students focus in the classroom,
teachers will have to achieve objectives which specify the instructional event in tern of student performance so
student outcomes can improve. Teaching and learning technology environment will affect the student's
development. Using the technology in the classroom will keep students engage in the difficult curriculum. For
those students who were in traditional classroom environment lecture, are more likely to leave the classroom
with more questions compared with students who are in modern classrooms.
I strongly believe that technology has positive impacted in the classroom and the productivity of
students. Even though budget concerns are always an issue in public schools, technology use allow students to
be actively thinking about information and executing skills that traditional lecture lessons because students are
able to use technology to support their communication with peers. Also, using technology in classroom will
change teachers role because educators will rather provide resources, suggestions, and no longer the center of the
classroom than the center of the classroom. Students in any grade levels will acquire skills from computer
software, and they prefer technology in the classroom because, for students, it make lessons more interesting and
fun. If students in our school are not familiar with technology tools, they will confront with problems in the
digital world. Today society is based on a digital component; therefore, education is not memorizing but it is
about solving complex problems and collaborate with other in their future workforce. Technology will prepare
students for their future in this increasing digital economy. Moreover, using technology in the classrooms will
help students learn according to their abilities and needs; for example, an application named Kids Learn to Read
(Lite). This learning style is not only benefit students but also teachers because computer software will give an
instructor to work individually with students who may be struggling. Educators need to keep up with times
order to best prepare students for the ever-changing society since technology has been influenced in both
teachers and students' lives. Students connect with technology in almost everything there do.

Identification of Standard
According to International Society for Technology in Education Standards Teachers (ISTE),

teachers shall design, implement, and assess learning experience to engage students and improve
learning . Also, teachers shall provide positive models for students and meet facilitate and inspire
student learning and creativity standard by using their knowledge subject matter, teaching and learning,
and technology to simplify experiences that advance students learning and innovation in both face-toface and virtual environments. Teachers shall; (a) promote, support, and model creative and innovative
thinking and inventiveness; (b) engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic
problems using digital tools and resources; (c) promote students reflection using collaborative tools to
reveal and clarify students' conceptual understanding and thinking, planning, and creative processes;
(d) model collaborative knowledge construction by engaging in learning with students, and other in
face-to-face and virtual environments.
After complete the curriculum, teachers in this grade level will accomplish the No Child Left
Behind Act (NCLB) which requires that all group of children reach proficiency in Mathematics. The
Status/Growth Measure is one of the performance indicators for Nevada Department of Education
which implies elementary students. Teacher will use a summary of Student Growth Percentiles (SGP)
to measure a students achievement of similar groups of students form one assessment to the next.
Mathematics will be one of three performance indicators which use to calculate student's knowledge
growth achievement. The Nevada School Performance Framework (NSPE) is a standard which
produces an index score based on 100 points for each of Navada's public schools. This criteria is
rooted in the relative performance of Nevada schools. NSPF index score is a composition of several
performance indicators. Each indicators worth a predetermined maximum number of points. Each
performance indicator is itself composition of multiple factors. The index score is the sum of all
elementary school point attribution includes status (school) points, growth (school) points, gap
(subgroup) points, gap (supergroup points), and other indicator points. The state of Nevada uses
Nevada Ready 21 which is a state technology plan to ignite the development of students' 21st century
skills. This plan transforms K-12 education by engaging all students as a learner-centered education.
Teachers will provide education that build a vibrant and diverse economy. Nevada Ready 21 provides a
blueprint for implementing one-to-one student computing in Nevada schools which is approved by the
Nevada Commission on Educational Technology.
The standard of the third grade is that students will be able to extend the three digit numbers
and will continue to gain a basic addition and subtraction facts. A relationship of whole number is very
important for a students in this grade level. By using technology teaching and leaning, students will
keep up their attitude of curiosity, creativity, and fun. Students will learn with a different style and will
expand knowledge of equality by identifying missing numbers in addition and subtraction facts. As
learning mathematics lesson, students will be engaged in using materials and technologies such as
computers. However, technology shall not be used as a substitute for the student's understanding in
addition and subtraction basic computations. Mathematics has its own vocabulary which can be crucial
to a student's understanding; therefore, using technology will encourage students to use correctly
patterns and concepts which will help students to reach standard. The major goal of the mathematics is
to develop problem solving skills of students at every grade level.
Lesson Plan
Name of Lesson: Fun with addition and subtraction facts!

Grade Level Appropriateness: 3

Technology Content Standard Addressed: This assignment will facilitate and inspire student
learning and creativity. According to ISTE Standards, teachers use their knowledge of subject matter,
teaching and learning, and technology to facilitate experiences that advance student learning, creativity,
and innovation in both face-to-face and virtual environments. Teacher will engage students in
exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resources.
Other Content Standard Addressed: The state of Nevada uses Nevada Ready 21 which is a state
technology plan to ignite the development of students' 21st century skills. This plan transforms K-12
education by engaging all students as a learner-centered education. Teachers will provide education
that build a vibrant and diverse economy. Nevada Ready 21 provides a blueprint for implementing
