Misconceptions-density unit

1. What is matter?
Matter is something that takes up space and has density.
Anything that has mass or takes up space.
-Matter is everything
-matter has stages, solid, liquid, gas
Matter is the element that makes up the universe.
2. Is oxygen matter?
Oxygen is matter because it takes space.
Yes because it has weight
Most say yes but not why
Yes because it takes up space in our universe
One class gave lots of nos
Yes because it contains elements.
Yes because matter can be a gas and oxygen is a gas./ another questioned
does gas take up space
3. What is plasma?
Plasma is energy/kind of electricity/ hot energy
I think plasma is what the sun is made of
Connections to sun but as a form of energy
Plasma is a type of lava.
Lightening is plasma. /It is static.
Doesnt plasma have something to do with stars?
Something that creates energy.
Matter in the center of a star.
4. How does one state of matter change to another?
When energy is applied to it matter changes from liquid to gas
Heat/cold and also pressure/temperature
The effect of other matter around it.
A chemical reaction
Elements
Changes with the environment are mentioned
5. Is energy matter?
No, matter is a sold, liquid, or gas, and as far as I know, energy is none of
those things. Lots of I agree
Otherwise just no or yes
No, energy has no atoms
No, energy is the force between negative and positive things.
Elements can combine to make a different type of matter. (!!! thats
chemical not physical)
6. Why does ice float in water?

Ice floats in water because they are both the same thing, just different
densities.
It has air bubbles!
Water has oxygen in it and it expands/oxygen gets trapped
Ice has less oxygen
It is less dense than water
Atoms in ice are closer together.

7. What is mass?
The weight of an object
The mass is the amount of stuff there is, like the same mass of grass and
iron, have different weights.
Mass is what makes up matter
Amount of space an object takes up
It can be measured
Large/massive/big
8. What is density?
The thickness of something
How tight the atoms are together/ how close atoms are together
How many particles in a certain amount of space. Its a rate
I think density has to do with the mass of matter.
Its what fills something
An objects mass and volume/mass divided by volume
How much of something is packed into a certain area. More dots more dense
A physical force
Density is the amount of water.
Similar to volume
Amount of molecules in something
Amount of atoms in a solid/liquid/gas
I dont know was on every page.
Remind them not to use the word in the definition.
