Journal 5: Marijuana
There is a lot to say about this topic. It is very controversial. I did two
discussions on it. I learned a lot about both sides of each argument I did for
it. Marijuana isnt too bad as far as being compared to others but it still is a
drug and it makes the user very unproductive. It is the most commonly
available psychoactive drug. It Originates from the cannabis plant. Its THC
concentration ranges from approximately 1 to 6 percent. The original
cannabis that was popular in the 60s and 70s had a lower THC level, it
wasnt nearly as potent as todays marijuana is. When marijuana effects the
brain, special receptors are stimulated by THC. They are concentrated on
area of the brain that are important for short-term memory loss and motor
control. No matter how high the THC concentration in the brain, there is no
danger of accidental death by asphyxiation. The effects are much weaker
than that of heroin, cocaine, and nicotine. As far as psychological effects,
marijuana increases the heartrate, depending on the dosage. Blood pressure
either increases, stays the same or decreases, depending on the whether the
individual is standing, sitting, or laying down. Bloodshot eyes caused by a
dilation of blood vessels on the cornea and peaks about an hour after
smoking a joint. Urge to drink- caused by drying of the mouth cottonmouth.

Makes you hungry and or horny- depending on where you are for example
Americans believe it does while Jamaicans believe it suppresses your
appetite and Indians believe it suppresses sexual urges.
