Reflective Letter

Welcome to my portfolio for English 220. This class has

introduced me to multiple new media projects which have been
useful in creating new ways to present materials and documents.
Discussions with the instructor and the other students have
covered many widely diverse topics and subjects.
This portfolio will show my work from this term and how it has
progressed in terms of structure, content and sources. The variety
of topics and subjects made for diverse and different types of
writing genres which I believe expanded my ability to cover more
completely the work of the author and my own arguments.
As the term progressed I believe the documents in this portfolio
will show my growth within the class and increased my
understanding of the class objectives.
Analyze Rhetorical Situations: Students will analyze the
subject, purpose, audience, and constraints that influence and
determine what kind of document (genre) they will write.
For this objective I believe projects 2 and 3 helped to show me
different types of documents that can be written to emphasize a
point or create an argument. I especially liked the manifesto
genre on education where I got to describe my alternative
education as a child and how that has affected my college
experience.
Find and Evaluate Information: Students will develop research
strategies for their rhetorical situation, and then gather
information from primary and secondary sources; they will
evaluate the sources for quality, validity, and appropriateness for
the rhetorical situation.
I believe I am able to evaluate appropriate sources of information
and evaluate them for quality and appropriateness. I find it best
to use peer reviewed articles when possible for my sources.

Compose Documents: Students will develop strategies for

generating content, organizing it into a logical structure, and
otherwise shaping it to address the needs of their audience within
particular disciplines.
I do think this class has helped me to learn more strategies for
developing documents. I found that generating multiple ideas
and then refine those that work the best for me. Finding multiple
resources then using those that fit the type of document and
direction I wish it to take.
Present Documents: Students will edit and revise their writing
to provide clear meaning and coherent structure; they will use
effective document and paragraph structure, documentation and
genre conventions, and document design to create a rhetorically
complete presentation.
I can only hope I improved my writing during the course of the
class. As I chose to not use social media I did not get peer
reviews. Those comments I received from Ms. Alpin and Sarah I
tried to incorporate.

For myself I found the use of multimedia not especially helpful

and the instruction or sometimes lack very confusing. I feel I did
learn quite a bit concerning how to write in different styles and
genres.
