Step 1: Identify Your Concept/Questions

What do you want your students to learn? Successful history raps have been written on concepts
such as democracy, war, and religion. Your history rap will be about democracy and
revolution.

Step 2: Find Your Rhymes

Write out all the key ideas related to your concept. For a rap about the order of democracy, you
must find out why democracy is so important to people. Why do people get upset when their
voice is not heard? Then find ways to make these ideas flow in a poetic form. I recommend
going to Rhymezone.com and plugging in your words. Not every word needs to rhyme perfectly.
You can also use words and phrases that sound similar, such as "democracy" and equality. If
you are writing a four-line rhyme, the second and fourth lines should rhyme.

Step 3: Craft the Hook

A catchy hook -- a rhyme repeated at the beginning, middle, and end of the rap, like a refrain -- is
essential to a good history rap. It quickly explains what the rap is all about.

Step 4: Back It up with a Beat

No song is complete without the musical beat behind the words. You can choose between
Drakes Hotline Bling, Fetty Waps Trap Queen, Fetty Waps 679, Rich Homie Quans
Flex, and Mark Ronsons Uptown Funk.

Step 5: Perform
Instead of a test, you might enjoy rapping the ideas about revolution and democracy! Or you may
want to record your voice into a computer and bring a recorded version into class.
