with the added benefit of heathier foods. The article gives multiple reasons to
why students may not choose healthier foods and the factors that play into
those reasons. The article then goes into detail of the negative effects of
offering healthier foods at a higher cost. This article is related to my
questions because it answers the question why do students still choose nonhealthy foods over healthy ones and gives insight to how it effects schools
and students.

they are. The article repeatedly gives statistics about child obesity and how
the new polices should affect the outcome. This article is related to my topic
because it gives me different points of view on certain policies and how they
affect everyone involved and is also from a different country with a similar
problem.
Cullen W.K. , Watson K.B, ( April 1, 2009) The Impact of the Texas Public School
Nutrition Policy on Student Food Selection and Sales in Texas, American Journal of
Public Health, Pages 21-25

standards to what was being sold in schools and was observed over the years
to see the changes. The results showed that unhealthy foods such as chips
and candy sold was reduced in all areas the policy was in effect. Overall the
policy caused a significant amount in change towards the nutrition in schools.
This article is related to my topic because it allows me to answer my question
of how do policies affect people involved, it answers this by giving me
information from years of observation of a policy in Texas and how it helped
reduce the amount of unhealthy food sold and consumed.
Alaimo K. (May 2015) The Michigan Healthy School Action Tools Process Generates
Improvements in School Nutrition Policies and Practices, and Student Dietary Intake,
Social Determinants of Food and Nutrition, Vol. 16, Pg. 401-410
This article is about a school in Michigan that set a policy to improve the
overall nutrition in school. The school then analyzes the changes in the school
nutrition over two years and sees an improvement. They have a few
outcomes from these observations. The new policy taught children about
nutrition which seemed to assist in the decisions they made in what they ate
and limited what was allowed to be served in school. This article gives me
insight to a single school and how similar polices affected this schools
nutrition and allows me to answer my questions of who puts these policies
into place and how they affect people involved.

which is obesity. Then the article sets a policy to change nutrition and the
knowledge of the students. The observation is done for five years and it
shows the statistics related to the observations. The article is set up in an
experiment formation which allows you to understand the statistics of the
amount of unhealthy food consumed before and after the policy along with
the change throughout the five years of observation. The article allows me to
answer multiple questions in one article by giving me the information to who
creates policies, why, and how it affects people. The questions are who
creates the polices and how do these policies affect students.
