What are Jesus qualifications?

Baptism by John- what do we see here about who God

says Jesus is?
Why does Jesus say he needs to be baptized?
What is the symbolism of the dove?
What are the implications of the words God spoke over
Jesus?

The Baptism of Jesus

John had just finished confronting the Pharisees about their sin
when Jesus comes up to be baptized. Johns response showed
that he had his heart right before God. He was convicted
himself and told Jesus that he himself needed to be baptized
rather than the other way around.

Jesus wasnt being baptized to remove sin, he was following the

commands from the Abrahamic covenant.

The dove that landed on Jesus was meant to represent

meekness and gentleness. It also shows what Christs mission
would have been rather than what people assumed it would
be.

Does he really know what we feel?

40 days in the desert:

It was 40 days which is about how long a person can go before dying.
It was real and not just symbolic. This helps us know that Jesus can sympathize with us because he
has been through temptations and struggles. It also shows he genuinely was both God and man.
Jesus was led into the desert by the Holy Spirit NOT Satan. This is important because then we
know that God wanted him to face these struggles. They were for a purpose.
What were the 3 categories of temptations Jesus faced?
Lust of the Flesh- This is the physical temptations. The temptations like food and shelter and
comfort.
Pride of life- Putting yourself above everything. That the ends justify the means. That its ok to do
something wrong as long as your reason is really really good.
Lust of the Eyes- the idea that we could have power or be powerful or make our life worthwhile.
But Jesus withstood them all by doing 3 things.
Scriptures
Jesus knew the scriptures because he had studied them.
They gave him confidence and guidance.
Prayer
connection with God.
Wisdom
Confidence and guidance.
clarification
Fleeing- Jesus sent Satan away. You dont have to allow him to hang around.
