Annotated Bibliography: Obesity

Fujioka, Ken, and Nitasha Bakhru. Office-based Management of Obesity. Mount Sinai Journal of
Medicine 77.5 (2010): 466-71. Org. 28 Nov. 2015.
This journal covers how to identify the disease. To diagnose it so it can be treated. It also talks
about why it is so hard to lose the weight. The journal provides graphs and percentages and
collectable data which can come in handy when trying to make a point.
I find this article objective and reliable. It talks about how losing the weight isnt easy. This lets
the reader know that they know losing weight is not an easy task. This journals purpose is to
make people and physicians recognize obesity; to diagnose it better. It has a slight similarity to
my other sources but has its differences as well.
This source was very helpful to me. It provides a different way to prevent obesity rather than
exercise and eating healthy. Although those are included it talks about doing it under a physician
using a multispecialty approach. The graphs and data that were provided will help make my
arguments stronger. All in all, my thoughts for my topic remain the same.
Kopelman, Peter G. Obesity as a Medical Problem. Nature 404.6778 (2000): 635-643.Org.27 Nov.
2015.
This journal covers the diseases associated with having obesity. It covers factors influencing
obesity, obesity as a medical problem, future prospect, and knowledge on the difference of being

overweight and obese. This source is all about obesity and the danger that come with it. That it is
not just extra body fat, it can cause major health issues that can affect your life forever.
This source is reliable and fairly objective rather than bias. It does focus on obesity but it is just
trying to help you understand the dangers it can have, and help you be more aware. This journal
wants you to take your health into consideration. Like my other sources it describes what
obesity is and how it has become an epidemic that needs to change.
This source was very helpful to me and will contribute what the dangers are for obese people. It
will help me argue that obesity isnt something we can ignore; that it is life threating. This
journal has made my thoughts for my topic stay the same.
Obesityaction.org. Obesity Action Coalition Home Comments. N.p., n.d. Web. 22 Nov. 2015
This website is dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by the disease of obesity.
It is helping individuals along their journey toward better health through education, advocacy,
and support. Their target audience are those with obesity looking for support and those who care
for individuals affected with obesity. They get their message out by doing local events, annual
conventions, brochures and guides, support groups, and educational webinars. The websites true
focus is to raise awareness and improve access to the prevention and treatment of obesity,
provide evidence-based on obesity and its treatments, fight to eliminate weight bias and
discrimination, and offer a community of support for the individual affected.

Being overweight or obese is associated with a large number of health problems, and a higher
risk of early death. This article wants to inform you of the health risk that obesity can cause and
that be staying healthy you can lower these risk. It discuss body mass index, premature death,
cardiovascular disease, diabetes, psychological and social problems, and weight reduction.
This source is very useful. It is objective and lets you know that losing the weight can really help
you in the long run. It really just wants to inform you of the harm obesity can do.
This source was slightly helpful to me. The on problem is it uses all of the data based on the
obesity in Australia. This journal can help shape my argument by having me discuss the medical
health conditions. Even though the data would be invalid for me to use the health conditions still
occur worldwide in those with obesity. This made me realize that I need to better my research by
keeping it global rather than in one country.
Rolls, Barbara J. The Supersizing of America. Nutrition Today 38.2 (2003): 42-53. Web.17 Nov. 2015.
Rolls journal talks about the portion intake that Americans consume. Also the portion size and
intake in children, eating out and portion size, and what should be done to prevent it. On top of
that, Rolls gives lab experimented facts that come along with helpful graphs and pictures.
Rolls really wants to emphasize on the unhealthy portion sizes being taken in by most
Americans. She doesnt just look at one side, she uses different sides and sees things with a
broad view. This text is crucial because of its raw facts and broad outlook on the topic.
This source was completely helpful to me, providing facts that have to do with every topic she
talks about. All of her information can contribute to my argument by stating what can be done to
prevent obesity and what is contributing to the rise in obesity. It has not changed the way I think
about my topic, but has encouraged it.
