Final Reflective Letter

Overview:
The Final Reflective Letter asks you to think about your writing process, your writing
progress, and your progress in this course. In this letter, addressed to me, you will make
thoughtful claims about your writing in this course and will explore these claims with
specific reference to the writing you have completed this semester.
Directions:
The Final Reflective Letter accomplishes three purposes. It allows you the time and
space to reflect on your writing as a whole and to assess your own progress. Also, it
encourages you to consider both weak and strong aspects of your writing and to set
goals for the remainder of your college career. Finally, because this class focuses not
just on your ability to write well but also on your ability to make conscious, reflective,
and purposeful choices in your writing, this letter provides you with a final avenue for
honing your reflective skills.
When drafting your Final Reflective Letter, you should seek to accomplish the following
goals:
Enter into a dialogue with me about your writing
Assess your strengths and weaknesses as a writer
Reference the work you completed this semester directly (quoting from it
as necessary)
Address the effort of revising and re-casting Project #1 materials to meet
the criteria and medium requirements for Project #3
Demonstrate your understanding of workplace genres by using proper
business letter format
Grading/Evaluation Descriptors:
Remember, the grading/evaluation descriptors for each formal writing assignment can
be found in the syllabus.
