gives you energy to run and play every day. However, just like we are
different from horses, horses are different from fish. Animals that live
in different environments do not have the same needs. I want you to
take out of your notebook and draw two pictures. I want you to draw a
picture of a fish in the environment fish live in. I want you to draw a
picture of a horse in the environment it lives in. (I will write a list on
the board of the two environments and what they need to sustain life)
I need everyone to come over to the carpet and bring your journals and
a pencil. I am going to read a two nonfiction stories about animals that
life in completely different environments. I want someone to remind the
class what a nonfiction story is. (CFU) The first book is about animals
that live in the ocean. You will write down the needs of the animals
from both books and what kind of environment they live in in your
notebook. (At the end of writing in their journals they will go back to
their tables and write down any facts they did not include by talking to
their friends about what they wrote. Then you complete a worksheet
with two columns with information from your list and the facts from
your friends also. (One column will be for sea animals and the other
will be for animals that live in the woods in North America).
I have a worksheet for you all do that requires you to draw a picture of
10
animals living in the ocean in their natural habitat. After you draw the
minutes
picture, you will then label the things the animals need to survive in
their environment. I will show you an example worksheet of animals
living in the rainforest.
Assessment:
The assignment is out of 20 points (10 points per assignment)
- 10 points full credit is given because the student did a good drawing
with labels
- 5 points partial credit is given because the student did a drawing
with some detail and labeled/listed some needs of the animal in their
environment

Targeted Students Modifications/Accommodations
Three students in the class learned English as a
second language, so this activity would include a
lot of vocabulary that they are unfamiliar with. For
the activities that require writing, the students can
draw a picture for this time, and then they will
write down what we discuss as a group. (PID)
