Math Reflection
After reading the mathematics framework I will use logic reasoning because students
learn best when they too build their own reasoning of math. For example, students will
understand that the equal sign is the same as the math problem instead of thinking that the
answer will be always at the right side. Moreover, teaching math must be engaging and
interesting, this is possible if math is taught through the help of candy, cookies, chip counters,
base ten sticks, and drawing visuals. These manipulatives are appropriate for a math lesson
because they reinforce the teaching method of the teacher.
Furthermore, all my math classes have prepared and motivated me to enjoy this subject.
However, there are two specific memories I have about my experience in both Math 207 and a
third grade math observation I did when I was in the LBS 203. I remember that Ms. Sandlin was
very enthusiastic about teaching math to her students, but what impressed me more was that she
was teaching the students beyond math because she taught them to relate math in all aspects of
life. For instance, she narrated a Halloween math problem to the students and they were engaged
because Halloween was coming up and they were getting ready to go trick or treating. On the
other hand, in Math 207 I realized the children needed to visualize math concepts in order to
perform them.
On the other hand, I believe I am well prepared to perform the basic arithmetic operations
as well as to use manipulatives to teach basic math concepts. I also consider myself
knowledgeable in technology, for example, I can manage appropriately the use of a calculator,

and I just like punching the digits into the calculator and letting it do the magic trick that for
many children would be amazing, well at least it was for me when I first learned how to use a
calculator; it was a mind blowing for me because I learned and acquired a new strategy to do
math problems.
Well Im not sure, but I can affirm that I struggle with the geometry domain because I get
confused by reasoning with shapes and their attributes. Also, I admit I lost practice with
multiplication, long division and fraction problems. This makes me feel less confident in
performing these types of math concepts.
I am planning to use assignments from Math 207 as well as the math lesson plan.
Moreover, my work samples show and explain each step, my group and I took to arrive to a
solution. This was great because we were able to contribute ideas in our math portfolios and
strengthen our ability to teach the topics cover in Math 207. However, I must admit that this class
was the most difficult for me because I had a not so good experience, but I was able to overcome
this challenge through perseverance. I now reflect back on this course, and I decided to take
only the good aspects I learned, and I will implement them in my own math lessons.
