Turkish interim Energy Minister Ali Riza Alaboyun said that Ankara will be ready to discuss the Turkish
Stream project with Russia in detail when a discount on the Russian gas is agreed.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Ankara will be ready todiscuss the Turkish Stream project withRussia indetail when a discount onthe
Russian gas is agreed betweenthe two countries, Turkish interim Energy Minister Ali Riza Alaboyun told Sputnik Turkey
onFriday.
The Turkish Stream gas pipeline construction was expected tobegin inJune,
butthe governments ofRussia and Turkey have not yet signed an agreement
onthe project. Earlier this month, Turkey said it would not abandon the project
despiteconstruction schedule delays.
"Adetaileddiscussionoftheprojectplananditsimplementation
canonlybeginafteranagreementisreachedontheprovision
ofdiscounts,"Alaboyunstated.
According tothe interim minister, the issue ofgranting Turkey a 10-percent gas
discount was orally discussed butwas never fixed onpaper.
The current Turkish authorities are convinced inthe necessity ofthe project, however the status ofan interim cabinet
ofministers does not allow them totake decisive steps inthat direction, Alaboyun added.
The Turkish Stream is a proposed pipeline withan annual capacity of63 billion cubic meters that will run fromRussia toTurkey
beneaththe Black Sea. The pipeline will continue toa hub onthe Turkish-Greek border, fromwhere it will be extended
toSouthern Europe.
