Evaluation of source credibility

Overall, I think I have been careful to choose sources created by respected
charities and institutions (such as Amphibian and Reptile Conservation Trust
(201?a; 201?b; 201?c), Freshwater Habitats Trust (2015a; 2015b), Natural
England and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (2014;
2015), and the Environment Agency (Sansom, 1997). Information from the
sources which were less credible, such as those found online with few details of
the author (e.g. UKAg Office for Environmental Programs Outreach Services
(n.d.)) or older sources (e.g. Williams, 1987) was carefully cross-referenced with
several other sources to ensure the information was not outdated.
As ecological information and advice tends to be impartial and scientific, I did
not have to worry too much about bias in the sources. I relied on the studies to
be accurate and unbiased because they have been published in scientific
journals, meaning their quality has already been scrutinised.
The sources which were most useful to me during this project were

undoubtedly Williams et al. (2010), The Conservation Studio (2011), Natural

England and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (2014;
2015), and Alderton (2015a). This is because they were reliable as they were all
produced or published by respected bodies (apart from Alderton (2015a), which
was referenced by UCL Department of Geography (2015)). These sources were
mines of information, containing useful, comprehensive information which I
used throughout my project.
