When the power switch is turned ON, power is supplied to tho unit. It takes 2 few seconds ater the power is turned on for the unit to warm up. This is due to the built-in muting circuit that eliminates noise during the on/off operation, PHONES (Headphone Jack) ‘This jack Is used to plug in the headphones. SPEAKERS (Speaker Selection Switch) ‘The PMA-260 ean be connected to two speaker systems: speaker system A and speaker system 8, When A is pressed, the speaker system connected to spoaker output terminala A operates. When B is pressed, the speaker system connected to spoaker output terminals B operates. When A and B are pressed on together, both speaker systems operate simultaneously. When the A and B switches are both off (in the out position), there is no output from the speaker terminals. This seting is used to liston to playback through the hesdphones. BASS (Bass Control) This knob is used to control the base quality of the sound, When the knob is set at the center position, the frequency characteristics are fattened in the range Below 1000 Hz. ‘The bas is emphasized as the knob is moved off conter to the right (>), and reduced as itis moved tothe feft( When volume contro! @ is set to the right of the center position, the effect of the other controls is reduced. TREBLE (Treble Control) ‘This nobis used to control the treble quality ofthe sound, When the knob is set atthe center position, the frequency characteristics are flattened in the range above 1000 Hz ‘The trble is emphasized as the knob Is moved off center to the right ( 79}, and reduced asit is moved tothe lft ( When volume contro! @ is set to the right of the center position, the effect of the other controls is reduced. BALANCE (Balance Control) ‘This knob is used to adjust the balance between the left anc Fight channels, When it is set €0 the center position, the amplitude of the amplifier is equal on both sides. If there is ‘difference in the left and right channel output voltages for ‘cartridge, move the knob tothe left and the right to adjust it. fthe volume on the right side i too low, turn the knob to the right [ 7). fthe volume onthe left side ie too low, turn the knob tothe left (>). This will achieve an even balance fon the left and right sides, LOUDNESS (Loudness Switch) ‘When the volume is low, its cificult for the human ear to clearly distinguish notes in the low and high frequency ranges. The loudness switch allows a simple “one-touch correction ofthis difficulty. Press the loudness switch ON (-=) when listening to music at a low volume. The low ‘notes and high notes will be corrected to produce a natural sound. INPUT SELECTOR (Input Select Switch) ‘This witch is used to select the input signal for the program source. The source to be recorded is also seloctod with this switeh + PHONO: — Used to select the output from a turntable that is connected to the PHONO terminal Use the PHONO switch @ (Back Panel Side) to switch the sensitivity to correspond to the cartridge type being used Used to listen a compact dise player or ‘other component that is connected to the CD terminal Used to play @ component such as an FM/AM tuner of 2 TV tuner that is con: neéted to the TUNER terminal. Used to play a component such as 2 HiFi video player, TV tuner, 8track tape player oF tape deck that is connected to the AUX terminal + TAPEA b 2 When using two tape decks to copy * TAPE b 1 ‘from one tape to another, set the switch to either “TAPE-1 b 2" or "TAPE-2 b 1". The “TAPE-1 b 2° position is used to copy from tape deck 1 t0 2. ‘The "TAPE-2 b 1" position is used to copy from tape deck 2 t0 1 ‘Sot TAPE MONITOR switch @ to “ON (=)" to monitor the source being recorded. = TUNER: = Aux: TAPE SELECTOR (Tape Selector Switch) ‘This switch is used to select the source to be played back when TAPE MONITOR switch @ is "ON (= ‘The “1: (L)" position is used to play back the tape deck connected 10 TAPE ‘The “2: (m" position is used to play back the tape deck connected to TAPE: ‘TAPE MONITOR (Tape Monitor Switch) ‘© When this ewitch is “ON {-=)", the source selected by ‘TAPE SELECTOR switch © will be played back. ‘© When this switeh is “OFF (a J", the source solectod by INPUT SELECTOR switch © will be played back. However, since “TAPE-1 D2” and "TAPE-2 b 1° of the INPUT SELECTOR switch are positions used for copying, playback will not be possible. @ source DIRECT (Source Direct Switch) ‘The controls (BALANCE, LOUDNESS, and TONE) can be sed when this switch is in the OFF (48) postion, When set to the ON ( =.) position, the above controls are by-passed and the signals are input directly to the volume control circuit, providing high quality sound, @® VOLUME (Volume Controt) This knob controls the overall volume level “Turn the knob tothe right >to reise the volume and to the loft (9) to lower i ® PHONO (Cartridge Selection Switch): Back Panel Side This switch is sot according to the type of player cartridge to be used. © MC (m): Used when an MC {moving col ar tridge with an output of less than 05 mV is used, © MM (at |: Used when an MM (moving-magneth cartridge with an output of 2 mV or more is used. OPERATION PREPARATION 1. CHECKING CONNECTIONS ‘© Make sure that al the connections are proper by referting to the back panel. (Fig. 2~3) ‘© Check the polarity (positive and negative) of connections, and the directivity of stereo separation (right cord to right channel terminal, and left cord to left channel terminal ‘© Check the directivity of pin cord connection 2.
