November Staff Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Todd Larson, Michelle Pabis, Jonathan Wallach, Jill Rable, Erin Messinger, Beth
Markwalder, Brianna Trujillo, Sandra Salomon, Amber OMalley, Char Sbrega, Kimberlee
Chislock, Jackie Miller, Tiffany Kirby, Carrie Stinnett, Jolene Larson
Corporate Compliance with Jonathan Wallach: When documenting relationship of assailant
in our DV charts, always document verbatim the information the patient gives you. For example
if the patient says my boyfriend, John Smith include the entire quote. Dont delete the name
from the quote if they say it. The full name is not always given by the patient and you could
inquire about the full name in situations when the persons full name would need to be known
clarifications of who or which person or for safety planning. Omitting the name when it is stated
by the patient would be altering part of the quote. Use quotes and there will be no issue.
Congratulations: Congratulations to Amber Norton, Sandra Salomon, and Char Sbrega who are
celebrating 5 years with HonorHealth. Thank you both for your ongoing commitment to our unit.
Amber OMalley is now certified as a SANE-A; great job! Kudos to Jaime, Michelle and Kim
who have or are completing their RN-BSN very soon! We also have several nurses continuing
their education: Tiffany in currently working toward her MSN and Sandra and Kristina are NP
programs. What great accomplishments by all! Todd also has a new title of Network Director of
Community Partnerships and Michelle Pabis is now a Vice President for HonorHealth.
Todd has been in contact with Jon Eliason from the MCAO and there is courtroom procedure
training in the works for medical professionals. We are also in the planning stages of looking into
developing a protocol for officer involved shootings that would expand our services to include
injury documentation on law enforcement officers involved in altercations while on duty.
There are two new advocacy centers in the works that we would be responsible for responding to
upon completion, most likely over the next few months to years. One will be close to ASU and
the other will be in Chandler.
Jill and Erin frequently meet with the Foundation in order to spark the interest of potential
donors in supporting our program. If you have specific requests for equipment please forward
your ideas to Erin or Jill. The Foundation has asked that we gather as much information as
possible that can be used to present to donors.
VAWA exams can now be performed any time of the day or night at the emergency department at
Osborn. This is to ensure nurse safety without making patients wait to receive a medical forensic
exam. If you are called to do one of these exams on the weekend, please call any office staff
member if you have questions.
If you ever have issues with language, deaf or translation difficulties we have options. An exam
should not be delayed or compromised because of a language barrier. The staff telephone list
includes numbers to use for translation. If you encounter a problem please reach and know that
we have the arrangement with Osborn ED to use an exam room. The translators and roving
hearing impaired services they have in house as a great option for these patient.
When requesting a schedule change or time off, please send Erin an email that way all parties
involved have a copy of the correspondence.

As of January 1st 2016, the attendance and tardy policies are being revised. The current policy
counts absences and tardies as separate occurrences. Under the new policy, absences and tardies
are tallied on one spreadsheet. There are consequences for staff that have multiple tardies and
absences, and HR has made it very clear that longevity plays no factor in the repercussions once
a certain number of tardies and or absences have been reached. Jill and I will be converting
occurrences to one spreadsheet once we receive it. Nurses who consistently forget to clock in and
out and who are not clocking in and out for lunches on a regular basis will be given an
occurrence, as this goes to a negative pattern of behavior. It is the responsibility of the nurse to
ensure timecard accuracy. I understand that not everyone gets a lunch for every shift, but it is not
realistic to think that a nurse has not taken a lunch at all over a one week or two week period.
Please continue to send Jill or Erin emails when Laborworkx is unavailable or call in to clock in.
For any questions, please ask Jill or Erin or refer to the HonorHealth policies for tardiness and
attendance.
HonorHealth is conducting a market analysis comparison early next year. We will update you if
there are going to any changes or increases to the current pay scale.
