Supplemental supplies: Students may benefit from having a Spanish-English dictionary
(although there are plenty of apps for that), or index cards to make flashcards of vocabulary
words (also apps for that). I have created a quizlet.com page with all of the material that we
cover in class for the students to practice at home, which works very well. The page is:
quizlet.com/subject/senoritacastillo . My class website is: senoritacastillo.weebly.com , and you
can use it to keep up with what we are doing in class! Other recommended supplies are: dry erase
markers and colored pencils/markers/crayons.
Grading Guidelines
Tests/projects: 30%
o Tests and projects are a main method to gauge students mastery of concepts. These
mastery grades will take place in a variety of ways, including through in-class projects,
written tests, and presentations. 6th and 7th grade classes have a SLO test, which is a statemandated standardized exam that takes place at the beginning and the end of the quarter.
The scores of the post test, at the end of the quarter will be included in this category.
Quizzes: 20%

o Mid-unit quizzes will be administered throughout the quarter, some of which will be
unannounced.
Participation: 30%
o Participation grades will be entered halfway through the quarter, at the time of progress
reports, and at the end of the quarter. Students are expected to participate in class
discussions, complete all of their work, and maintain a positive attitude conducive to
learning.
Daily grades: 20%
o In-class assignments will fall under the daily grades category, and there should be no
homework in this class unless students fails to use class time wisely and must complete
assignment at home.

Classroom discipline:
Although I do not anticipate any behavioral problems, I will address it just in case. In accordance with
the school-wide discipline system, a first offense of misbehavior will result in a verbal warning. Upon
a second offense, the student will receive one strike. With a third offense, a second strike will be
recorded and I will contact the students parent or guardian. If a student receives a third strike, they will
be expected to serve after-school detention in my room until 3:15 in the afternoon. All strikes will be
documented with the date and the reason for discipline.
Contact Information:
My contact information can be found at the top of the front page of this syllabus. Please feel free to
contact me at any time. My planning periods are from 9:15-10:00 AM and 11:40-12:50. These times, as
well as after school, would be the best times to contact me for an immediate reply.
Thank you so much. I look forward to this quarter and know that it will be a great one for all of us!
Please complete the information on the bottom of this page and send back the slip. This will count as the first
daily grade for the quarter.
