Compacted Math Curriculum

This two-year program has been written to include all the Common Core State
Standards for Grade 7, Grade 8, and Grade 9. If a student successfully completes
both years of this accelerated program, he or she will be prepared to begin 10th
Grade Math at the beginning of 9th grade. Below are the units that will be covered
by the Compacted Curriculum in the two years.
Year 1 Units (7th Grade):

Operating with Rational Numbers

Algebraic Reasoning
Percent and Proportional Reasoning
Real Numbers
Geometry: Angle Relationships
Geometry: Two Dimensional Figures
The Pythagorean Theorem
Congruence and Similarity
Geometry: Three Dimensional Figures
Inferences About Populations
Probability

Year 2 Units (8th Grade):

Patterns in Data
Functions
Linear Equations and Inequalities
Linear Functions: Graphing
Scatterplots and Trend Lines: Modeling Linear Relationships
Systems of Linear Equations
Exponential Functions
Quadratic Functions
Arithmetic and Geometric Sequence

Compacted Math Additional Expectations

Behavior
Due to the schedule this year, the Compacted class will sometimes be meeting at
the same time as the 7th grade math class. This will mean that there will be times
when the Compacted students will be expected to work independently on
assignments. During these times students will be expected to act maturely and
remain focused on the assignment. If a student cannot meet this expectation, a
meeting will occur with the student, the students parents, and Miss Krueger to
discuss whether or not a student should continue in the Compacted program.
Grade
The Compacted program is an accelerated math program that covers Grade 7, Grade
8, and Grade 9 Algebra I in two years. Since high school level mathematics will be
taught during these two years, the students will be held to the same expectations
as a high school math student. At the end of each unit, students will be assessed on
their understanding of the material to determine if they should continue in the
Compacted program. Students will be expected to maintain at least an 80 average
in the class. If, at the end of a unit, a student has an average below an 80, a
meeting will occur with the student, the students parents, and Miss Krueger to
discuss whether or not the student should continue in the Compacted program.
Exams
All students in Compacted Year 2 (during 8th grade) are required to take the
midterm exam in January and the final exam in June. These exams come from the
high school and are the same exams that the high school students taking Algebra I
will be taking. These will both count as double test grades.
